Were is the best place to buy one that does not cost a fortune.
Thanks.

We got one from a shop in the Florida Mall - I don't think it was there last time we went - but the bigger department stores had them.

You absolutely have to go to a shop that's just before the old Belz outlets. I am so sorry I can't remember the name but if you are on International Drive heading towards Belz its on the left in the section of outlets that has Ralph Lauren, Guess, and the Galleria of jewellery place. They have an amazing selection of dresses, shoes and accessories. I got a full length ball gown, shoes and bling for about one hundred dollars. And more importantly for her, she will probably be wearing something noone else will have.

we bought DD2 prom dress from ross for less...not really cheap skates but got a fantastic dress from about 30$ and so different from anything here. we bought it on international drive on the other side of the road to festival bay,, there is old navy TK Max and a book shop there.

Brenner's is in the Florida Mall but they are pricey and most things have to be ordered. They do have some stock available though.
Nearly all of our department stores have special occasion sections so check with them. Dillards (http://www.dillards.com/endeca/EndecaStartServlet?N=1604007&splashlink=a110607), Macy's (http://www1.macys.com/catalog/index.ognc?CategoryID=5449&PageID=5449*1*24*-1*-1&kw=Dresses&LinkType=EverGreen) (take advantage of 11% off with passport) and JCPenney (http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/X3.aspx?DeptID=50434&CatID=50444&cmCatLevel=3&CmCatId=50434|50444|51367) would be my recommendation. JCPenney has a catalog that you can order from and have it delivered to the store if you don't find what you are looking for. That usually takes 3 days.
David's Bridal (http://www.davidsbridal.com/index.jsp) is another great option. They have a large selection of dresses to pick from and often have really great sales. They have a shop across the street from the Super Target at Millenia Mall. This is probably the shop I would recommend over the others. Florida Mall for the department stores is a good place because of convenience but if you can try David's you might like the variety since this is their specialty.
Looking at the time of year you are coming over I doubt you will have a problem because of it being holiday season. In fact, you will probably find a great bargain because of it.
This thread is interesting, as DD has her Year 13 Prom next year. We got her Year 11 prom dress from Debenhams, it is full length, but for the year 13 prom she said that most of the girls wear short dresses, so maybe we could look for something when we go to orlando in March and save some money. :d:
Wow, just had a look at David's Bridal website, what lovely dresses they have, including short ones too - I think we will be paying the shop at visit in March, they have beautiful dresses for $110. :d:

one thing you might want to look into before you buy anything is what exactly is the norm for girls wearing at her school ..
my DD1 had her prom in June this year and her school is pretty fancy and even they were mainly in cocktail rather than ball gowns (i would say only about 15-20% had on full length dresses and even those were not big ball gowns ..
I actually got my wedding dress from the US.. it was specially made for me by a lovely lady in upstate New York and cost a fraction of what it would have been here .. it was a medieval style in midnight blue velvet and lined in gold crushed velvet (the shipping cost still gives me nightmares :omg:  ) as we got married in the candelit chapel of a 14th century Scottish castle..
it was fairytale stuff and i felt fabulous :D :D :D we got married in Dec and as an added bonus due to the weight of 3 layers of velvet (I also had a long velvet cloak) i was the only person not cold at all *lol*
