Can anyone advise me. Going to Florida for the first time in March. Do I really need to take a credit card with me. I have hired a car (first Choice platinum cover). I've got travellers cheques (got them already whilst rate is good) and I'm going to buy my theme park tickets before I go.

As long as your sure you've got enough dollars for while your there i wouldn't take one unless you'd have the money to pay it off when u get back, I am making sure i take more than enough money with me as i don't want to use my credit card if i can help it as i want to come back and save for the next holiday and not to a debt! Although saying that i will take mine just incase of emergencies

A credit card is hand in case of an emergency, medical or otherwise.

Hopefully it wouldn't be needed, but having one is an insurance just in case.

We only got 1 for our trip for the first time in agust, and it was a godsend as most stuff over $100 is payed on cc over there, when we where payin in cash for stuff they kept checkin the $50 bills as they had never seen people with such big notes paying for stuff

I can't imagine going without one, or five. I can't think of many hotels that don't want a card for an imprint, just in case you use some service or other. Rental car companies do the same, even if you've prepaid.

Cards are handy, but if you are not used to them or feel you will be tempted then take a card, but leave it in your room safe.

Personally, I feel really uncomfortable paying cash and use cards for most things; here and abroad.

I would always carry one in case of a medical emergency. Even the smallest thing that you need to see the doc for - ie: throat infection, can cost a couple of hundred dollars. Also, the car hire company may ask for an imprint of a CC - some do, some dont.

we don't generally carry one but we did decide to hire a car and had to leave the imprint. i don't know how it works when you've pre-booked it though

We had the two girls ill with ear infection and throat infection on our second trip. The cost came to nearly $1000 for doctor and prescription. Thank god we had a credit card or it would of dented our holiday funds.

I never take one, just some cash, and my Nationwide flex account card.

I wouldn't travel without one for this very reason.

We didnt have one the first two visits but did the third - and was soooo glad we did due to youngest dd having a severe ear infection which meant we couldnt fly home for a further week!!!!
Creditcards are used as back up for emergencies and not general spending with us but after the price of medical care and our insurance being one that you had to pay and be reimbursed it brought it home to us the importance of having one on stand by!!!

I'd take one for the ''just incase'' senario. A few years ago, on the last day of our holiday i fell in Universal and fractured my elbow and had to have treatment/xrays etc...but as it was the last day my mate and i didnt have much cash left...luckily my mate had her card on her !!!!

I wouldn't leave home without one!

I know you say you have your TCs & you may not like carrying CCs in case of fraud or will power, or something. But I really would carry one just in case the worst happens. Ask yourself, if you needed cash quickly how would you get it? Do you have someone back home who could wire you money? I also think it's a shame you could be missing out on reward points by not carrying one ... but then it would be rude to make assumptions about your financial situation. Only you know that.

personally, you never see me in an Exchange Bureau & I think TCs are so antiquated. ;)

I would never go without one.

As others have said, handy for an emergency - cost me over $200 to have my crown glued back in the one year.

Better safe than sorry is my motto.
