these seem fairly cheap if the tax is included. Wonder if the warranty is applicable to return to Asda's tho :)

the usa prices do seem a little cheaper, as well as better spec in terms of RAM and HD capacity compared to the budget uk ones

You can get a laptop from Dell these days for little over 299.

Than you can upgrade them a little and still have all guarentees and warranty...

Im not saying buying abroad is a bad option but just think it is not one to be taken too lightly when it comes to laptops

Compusa, Circuit City and Best Buy have a good range of laptops. They nearly always have "specials" on offer. Walmart can be quite cheap but you get little choice and they tend to have the lower spec machines. The US keyboard layout is also a little different to the UK one but it's not a big deal to live with.

Of course it will work in the UK. The only real problem could be the power adapter but it would be rare to find one that isn't 110/220. I've bought three laptops in Florida in the last 2 years and all I hadto do was change the lead (figure of eight or clover leaf type).

The only thing I would be concerned about is the warranty, but the Wal-mart / Asda connection that should be okay.
