We have been asked to look for a Nintendo DS in Florida. We know nothing about them. Can anyone tell us:
Is there a big saving buying one in the US?
Do they work in the UK?
Are the games compatible ie do British bought games work on the US Nintendo?
Wal*Mart are advertising a DS lite. Does anyone know what this is?

I'm sure someone on here will know the answers :thumbs-up

Thanks in anticipation.

The DS lite is just a lighter, sleeker version of the DS; it's Nintendo's way of persuading gadget fans to buy it twice.

Walmart sell this for £67 including tax, Amazon for £100, though you might have to pay shipping. the Walmart price is based on today's exchange rate and if you pay cash you won't get that. Still 30% cheaper, not bad and you can return it to Asda.

They run off batteries and the games are the same the world over, so it will work in UK

Oh - the Nintendo DS is a pocket sized electronic toy which plays video games that you have to buy separately, like buying CDs for your hi-fi.

So, your £100 is just the start of an ongoing relationship with you local games shop. Games cost £20-30

Thanks David. I'll have a look at them in WalMart tonight.

If you want the new scarlet one, Walmart have sold out (at least all the ones we went to had!). Best Buy had it in a gift set, with a case and a game for $150 (£75). The console on its own is $129 nearly everywhere. Plenty of silver, pink and white ones available. Only the black and scarlet seem to be hard to find.

I am hoping to pick up one each for the kids for xmas and daughter is dead set on the pink!! Son couldn't care less (as long as it's not pink!!!!) so it's good to know they seem to be in free supply thanks x

Games in the US are around $30 + tax, about half the cost of UK games.
When are you going? There have been some posts saying that the tax allowance for bringing items back into the UK may double in January.

Thanks very much for all your replies. We'll probably pick one up from WalMart for $129 and look for a couple of games.

They are rechargeable and you will need to either buy an adaptor or a new lead when you get home. My son's PSP plugs into the shaver socket to charge up.

Games are a bargain, don't buy them here.

PS2/3 games will not play in the UK though so beware.

Hi Annie or anybody who knows, :wavey:

What lead to you get to charge the DS Lite when you buy in USA?
Are there 2 pin leads or do they supply a usb lead to charge through a PC? In the latter case is the voltage safe?

Just buy a UK lead when you get home - the Nintendos are the same worldwide. I used the one that came with my US bought one to charge our UK bought DSs and vice versa. You can buy them from Game for about £7. Fortunately, with UK and a US one we have both chargers now, but the UK ones charged fine with the UK charger plugged into an adaptor (before I bought my one!) then with the US adaptor.

I'm considering getting the new scarlet one, I really like that one, and I'm getting a bit fed up of waiting for the colour to surface in this country and I'm not sure if it will at all.

So basically if I do decide to go for it it will work just fine with the charger that I already have for my exsiting DS. (I've got one from just after when the came out)

Depends if your charger is for the DS or the DS lite.

DD has the original DS and I have the DS lite (bought in America)

The chargers are different. I had to buy a UK charger for DS lite from Game for £7.99 but I then wanted a car charger and got a car charger and an ordinary charger from GAMESTATION for £4.99. Why didn't I look there first? :(
