Oh dear! Every one I searched for had violations. :erm: Either they are very stringent or there are widespread hygiene issues. Can't imagine it will affect the levels of business though.

never fancy the buffet style breakfast places, I always think they are a bit yukky, lots of people leaning over the food ect.

My husband is a Chef at a very upscale establishment here in Orlando and he said that even they have received violations when inspected. It is pretty common and they are very strict here. It can be something as simple as a lid not being completely sealed or a trash bin being too close or not the proper kind. It doesn't necessarily mean it is food related either. It can be building code violation, wrong equipment being used, etc..

That doesn't mean that they are all this way of course. There are, sadly, places that due have hygiene problems but believe me they will not let it go. They will be given so much time before they are reinspected and if not resolved they will be fined and the doors will be shut if necessary.

Here are some sample violations that aren't food related:

Bathrooms with self-closing doors, well-operating fixtures, etc
Physical facilities (walls, ceilings, etc)
Premises maintained, kitchen restricted
Electrical wiring
Flammable materials properly stored

We do, ourselves, look from time to time. Here is a direct link if you are interested:

I work in Technical food safety, and can honestly say the Americans could (mostly) give us a run for our money!!

I used to conduct food safety audits, and it's true that quite a lot of the 'non conformances' are nothing to do with food.

Anyway, if I took my work too seriously in my private life, (I do at work), I'd be a size zero, and not the healthy (?) looking creature I am now!!

DON'T think - just EAT, and enjoy

C'mon guys,
There are good and bad restaurants all over the world, trouble is you only ever get to hear the bad reports. I can honestly say that some of the best food I've tasted in the best environments has been in Orlando! Yet there is a chippie less than half a mile from my front door I wouldnt step foot in !!

agree totally with this, we had some of the best food ever this year in orlando, and the settings were outstanding too, all looked clean and healthy. you can always get the wrong impression abiout a place, we were in the hard rock in manchester, and where we were sat i could see into the kitchen area when they opened the door, was watching them wash plates under what looked like a power tap, thought , wow, they can't be clean just been washed like that. but found out that was just part of the washing procedure. everything was spotlessly clean when it came out.

I remember visiting Paris a few years back and after we had unpacked the cases we headed into town for the evening for a stroll and a bite to eat. We walked through a half built shopping centre and into a well known fast food restaurant. We were stood in the que with the kids with about two people in front of us waiting to be served when a rat ( I wont say it was the size of a cat but it had tattoos!) ran straight in front of us ! You could have knocked me down with a feather. We laughed til we cried. Then left!
