I cant see these snow globes being allowed in hand luggage. Am I right in thinking this? will probably have to risk well packing and putting in suitcases well wrapped up.

You're right Tracey...they have to go in your hold luggage....I'm a wee bit worried about getting one now....I know they bubblewrap them well...but I'll still not be convinced it wont end up smashed...A lot of dibbers have brought them back safely though

My mum bought a snow globe last year it was well packaged in the Disney shop when checking in they told the check in girl who said they could carry it on as hand luggage, which they did, whilst going through security they had to take it out of the packaging to be throughly checked over etc etc but then it was re-packaged up again and allowed on the plane.

One unbroken snow globe = one very happy mum!!

I was told by a member of security staff at Gatwick that snowglobes have to go in the hold. Due to the liquid in them. We had our snowglobes shipped to save all the hassle.

I've bought 3 large globes backed on 3 different occasions in hold luggage, with no breakages. They are packed and padded really well by the CMs and then I pack clothes all round them. So far, so good.

There is a sign in the DTD shop and on some of their receipts saying that snow globes CANNOT be taken on aircrafts as hand luggage but must be packed away in the hold.

My mother did pack hers as hand luggage last year for her return flight, luckily the security guard checked the globe and allowed my mother to carry it but advised her that in future they should be carried in the hold.

We've brought them home successfully in hold luggage - wrap them up well and they should be fine :thumbs-up

We brought two back in October.

Heather is right - it does say on the Disney receipts that they have to be put in the hold.

They were really well packed.

What we often do is blow our DD's swimming arm bands up & pack them round the fragile stuff (have done this with bottles of whisky too!!!!) and things have normally been ok.

While we were at the airport in September they were going down the line telling people all snowglobes had to go in the hold!

I LOVE snowglobes but just cant decide whether to risk getting one over there and putting it in my case.....I am going on honeymoon to Disney in April and also having my 30th birthday there and would love to buy a really special one to bring back for my birthday - should I risk it?
