Am working on planning a trip somewhere in January. Not sure where yet as it will depend on a good deal coming up. In the past I have always had an extra hand luggage allowance due to carrying medical stuff. I use a nebuliser and lots of other bits that take up close on my entire hand luggage allowance and as I could not risk it getting lost or delayed it all must go as hand luggage. I can work on the airline to get clearance but its the going through security bit that worries me with all the 1 item per person literature. Now in the past I know they discounted medical things from this but I cannot find this in writing anywhere. Anyone got anything please. I shall of course have a doctors letter as carrying sharps and most of my drugs are fluid hence also over the liquid allowance.

 Hi my mother in law has a small suitcase full of medication including syringes(she is diabetic, heart probs etc) that she has to take on holiday with her, she too has it as hand luggage, last year when we flew to Florida she only had to show her medical certificate/letter from her GP and all they did was xray it,she also had an extra small bag as hand luggage so i think they make exceptions for people with medication as long as they have proper letters etc, so you should be allright  :pd

So long as you have your doctor's letter, you'll be ok. Allowances are made for medication. Phone the airline special needs if you're unsure. Happy holiday!

With a covering letter from your doctor you should have no problems at security. You may have to take any liquids out of your bags and have them screened individually. We always have a holdall full of meds and it wasn't a problem even at the height of the security scares.

Thanks. Its the check in staff etc that scare me by saying only 1 item and no exceptions. If they want to screen the liquids etc thats fine but I wont be unpacking it in advance after all 4 glass amps per day plus nebs would be silly and it will all be fully labelled, original seals not to mention medical letter. Would just like it in writing first from an official source that its OK before I go to wave at check in staff.

Quick question sorry to jump the post.

DD has calcium syrup which is 500ml bottles. Last year there was no problem (went December). I am hoping it will be the same this year. I do have a doctors note for them. I do not want to pack them and find them all smashed.
I think i should be ok do you.

Hi Mainecoon Lover. I would suggest from experience a doctors letter and full sealed bottles with pharmacy label etc should do the trick for you.

Thanks loadsapixiedust. I'd found that sight but it just reinforced the one item per passenger message rather than helping with the rare exemptions. I've even tried to speak to security at airport but cant get put through this time.

mainecoon lover, on every trip we took 500ml (glass) bottles of DS's meds and they were fine with those. The bottles were all sealed and labelled from the pharmacy and we had a doctors letter which was checked in the US.
