Hi :wavey:
My wife and i are staying in a villa for 21 nights and i have a couple of questions.
We will be eating a few meals out but we have the benefit of cooking facilities as well.
How much do you spend on grocery shopping ?
My wife is a vegetarian and wonder if America puts on their packaging if suitable for vegetarians?.

Thanks :)

I live in Orlando and my DH and I usually average about $70 a week for groceries. We aren't vegetarians so I can't answer about the labeling. I know that Publix has a special labeling system for their organic product. If in doubt, ask the staff. Grocery staff (especially at Publix) are always very helpful. Since you are here for a longer time you might want to try Fresh Market (http://www.freshmarket.com/) if you are in the International Drive area. It is located on Dr Phillips which is just off of Sand Lake Road. My DH is a chef and this is a place he prefers. A bit pricey but great quality.

Having just looked at your countdown I would also suggest trying Whole Foods (http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/) which will be open by the time of your holiday. It will be located on the corner of Sand Lake and Turkey Lake Road.

I am also a veggie and I must admit, I don't eat very well when in Orlando. I'm fussy though so that could be half of my problem but to be honest, America is not geared up totally for veggies yet.

In Publix, they have a small of veggie food .. veggie patties, sausages etc but don't expect to find Quorn or Linda McCartney.

I take the packets of dried Beanfeast (mince variety) with me in my luggage as I find that goes nicely with jacket pots and pasta. They do other flavours too don't forget, I just don't like them!

You won't starve but don't go thinking it will be a culinary delight! We went to McDonalds once for breakfast and I chose an Egg McMuffin .... it came with a slice of bacon in it!! They couldn't understand why I was confused that it wasn't called a Bacon and Egg McMuffin!!They love their meat!!

Enjoy.

I don't have firsthand experience with the book Vegetarian Disney - Greater Orlando but you may take a look for it and see if it is helpful:

Let's hope so .. they certainly didn't stock it last year when I went. I lived on pizza and veggie patties for 2 weeks!!

This time, I'm aiming to live off of chocolate only.
