Hi
I went to NY in April 05 for 5 nights and stayed at the Renaissance hotel right on Times Square, is a fabulous hotel. Not sure bout price as 4 of us shared a room and it worked out reasonable. You can spend hours searching for hotel rooms in NY, none are really cheap and if they are they are probbaly not up to much. Just check tripadvisor and go with one that has good reviews. I would try and stay near TImes Square as it is right in the middle of all the action.
Pre book your tickets for the Empire State though, this saves a long queue.
Hope that helps

I don't know what kind of price you're looking for, but Affinia Dumont is within walking distance of Macys and other shopping, you can find info here: www.affinia.com They also have AAA Rates if you have a UK AA membership card you're eligible for them. Hope that helps. :D

Mazzy, are you in the one on east 34th st? good choice if you are, we stayed west 34th st in small howard johnson hotel, the HJ wasn't up to what you would expectm but location was really good,
Macy's empire state and madison square garden all there for you.

Yes Dave, we are booked for the one on E 34th Street. :d: The appeal of this hotel was that it is all suites, just what we need with two teens - boy and girl. I didn't realise what a great location it was until I started looking at maps, and yeah we can walk to Macys, Grand Central Station, Empire State Building. Such a great price too, in fact I noticed last week the price had gone down so cancelled the original booking and re-booked at $297 per night, that's for a 1 bed suite with 2 queens and a sofa bed, and kitchen. :thumbs-up

I'm staying in Manhatten next Saturday and couldn't find a hotel that looked decent for a reasonable price. In the end, I had to pay $600 for a single night :(

It was the Empire on W63rd, but after seeing a post on here about reducing prices, I checked again and found the Renaissance on Times Square for the same price, so cancelled! I'm only in Manhatten for a single night so I thought it best to stay at Times Square.

Still hideously expensive, but I put that down to it being the first Saturday in December and it will be swarmed by shoppers.

At least you managed to change hotels and are now more central. :d: I looked up the Affinia rates for your one night, and its similar prices and higher, so sounds like the shoppers are definitely in town! ;)

Westin Times Sqaure, quite pricey but a fantastic hotel in a superb position. I think we have paid £650 for 3 nights, club room, inc lots of bits and bobs, Breakfast, evening snacks and drinks ect.

the cheapest hotels you will find over the weekend is in the financial district, yet they are 3 1/2 or 4 star. We have been twice now, and stayed in two different hotels but give me the first one we stayed in any time. it was the Marriott financial hotel. we did stay in the mellineum hilton two weeks ago, the room was nice but the staff were rude and very unhelpful where as in the marriott thay could not do enough.......

i have photos of both hotels if you want pm me your email address and i will send you a few.

OMG, just had a quick look at the hotel i would recommend, its FULLY booked, the is availibility on the 12th and it was $599, so our stay in November was the right time, at the price then was $150 for the same room :omg: :omg: :omg:

Well I have just the single night in Manhattan so decided to stay as close to Times Square as possible. Fortunately I managed to cancel my original hotel and book the Rennaissance in Times Square for a little cheaper, but it is still over $500. I'm getting the impression I picked the wrong time to head over there

Whenever I've stayed in New York for shopping I've used priceline.com (not the .co.uk site with the current exchange rate) and used biddingfortravel.com as a guide what to bid. I've got the Hilton on W 42nd, the Crowne Plaza the last 2 stays and never paid more than $150.
Midtown West suits me and I don't care where I stay in that area as it all works for shopping and theatre.
If you want a named hotel try www.travelzoo.com and enter to the US not the UK site and look at the NYC deals.

I have stayed in the Penn a few times.
Now it is mucho cheap and get some bad reviews, however i have always got their better rooms and they have been fine.
The best thing is the location, right next door to macy and across the street from madison square gdns, it is fab.
