I couldn't say how much you will need, but we had a girls trip just the two of us in 2006 and loved it.

its much more expensive then Florida so start saving
we did LA,San Fran,Las Vegas loved San Fran the best
we have Travelled to Florida, NYC, California, The Deep South Atlanta Mississippi New Orleans Memphis and found California expensive for food and clothes
I didn't particularly notice the food being more expensive than Florida, our restaurant bills were more expensive but that's because we had a bottle of wine because DH wasn't driving at nights.
For clothes shopping we got some great bargains at the outlets at Gilroy and Carlsbad.

I have to say that our trip in 2006 was much cheaper than our Florida trip last year. Although some of the restaurants are more expensive, the 'chains' like IHOP, Denny's and TGI's are still around and are the same kind of prices as Orlando.
If you check out my trippie - link below - you'll see the kind of prices we paid. For example....Ciopinno's Restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf - Lasagne for DH, Shrimp Gorgonzola for me, Chicken Strips for DD plus soft drinks - $50 + tip.
The thinkg that makes it cheaper to do California (IMHO) is that you don't tend to spend as much on theme park tickets - or at least we didn't. We only did 3 days at Disneyland so I suppose if you're doing Universal/Sea World it might cost more.
Hi,
Today's exchange rate obviously helps but we didn't find California expensive compared to Florida. Some of the more upmarket areas will carry a higher price tag than Orlando but in the main good value for money all round.
