Absolutely disgusted !! My wife booked a trip to Vegas for my 40th birthday and we booked The Venetian Hotel as it is the one my wife really wants to stay in.

We fly Sunday and Thomson have just rung up to say the hotel is overbooked and they can now only offer us the Belagio !!!

I'm at a total loss for words, these hotels have 1000s of rooms.

My only thought is as we booked so long ago we got a good deal. I tried to book the same a couple of months ago and it was almost double !! A certain boxing match springs to mind. It very much looks to me like we are being pushed out for other higher paying customers.

Mrs Blue is in their now creating a merry dance (I'm scared of her so they better be.)

It totally sucks man :mad2:

i know they double book rooms as there are always no shows (it happens at the travel lodge over here).

Thomsons are at fault as they have a certain allocation of rooms but you could try contacting the hotel direct and see if they can help.

If no joy after speaking to Thomsons I would be tempted to call them and/or fire off an email directly to the hotel (General Manager if possible), if your set on going there it might just make a difference and worth a shot ?

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the boxing....looks like you've been bumped to maybe accomodate the high rollers......shocking though...I hope you get it fixed

Wow, the Bellagio, fantastic hotel, would much rather be staying there.

Thomsons did same to us a few years ago as well, push for compensation we got £500 in end for the inconvenience

I said we would accept the Bellagio as well as upgrade flights but I think the plane is full. It's from Manchester so full of boxing fans.

Hotel has plenty of rooms left direct which is the annoying thing.

Will see what Thomson offer after Mrs Blue goes in at lunchtime, £500 does seem like a nice sweetner.

Mrs B has her heart on The Venetian !! We got married in Vegas in 2001 and she absolutely loved this hotel !! Even though we stayed at Excalibur.

Talk about short notice! Definately kick up a stink, you might not get the hotel you want, but you could get some compo out of it all. They definately need to give you something after all you brought and paid for the holiday in good faith that you would have want was stated. The Bellagio is lovely, but you wanted, and paid for the Venetian, so that's what you should get.

Personally, having stayed at both, I prefer the Bellagio. Get them to give you a fountain view room - I doubt you'll be disappointed. Bellagio has a real X factor the Venetian doesn't.

Currently the offer is Bellagio + £150 !! Thomson claim we were the last people to book so that's why we are being cancelled. Mrs B is livid, told them not to insult her intelligence, we know exactly why we are cancelled as they are not making enough money from us as we booked well before the boxing was even arranged.

similar happened to us a few years ago but with JMC,Thomas cook.We ended up taking them to Arbitration to get compensation for the disruption and i think we got £700 and didnt have anything to pay.

If you dont get what you are after it my be the way to go.Good Luck!!!

It looks highly likely you've been bumped - you'll be paying much less as you've booked in advance, if there's a big event happening the hotel can get $100's more a night for those rooms from people desperate to see the fight or whatever it happens to be.

The Venetian has around 4000 rooms, not 40, so for them to claim 'overbooked' is BS given how long ago you booked.

I'd turn this situation to your advantage though, honestly the Bellagio is better in just about every respect to the Venetian, push the swines for as much compensation as you can get - then you'll get the better hotel for less!

i haven't stayed at either but would plump for the Bellagio as i thought it was great when wandering around the hotels.

Loved the fountains too.

Surely if the hotel is offering rooms direct and Thomson haved used their allocation then they should "buy-in" an additional room direct from the hotel and absorb any additional cost? Wouldn't be so bad if the hotel was genuinely full but if you have found rooms you can book direct then that would be my approach with Thomson.

Friends daughter works in a travel agency and has told us exactly what is going on.

With the Ricky Hatton fight they have sold their allocation for the Venetian. But as they have not sold their allocation in the Bellagio it's does not cost them anything to move us (assuming we agree) they can then charge a lot more for the booking we have now vacated.

But to be a barefaced liar and actually say we were the last to book hence why we have to move is just beyond me. We booked between Xmas and New Year 2006 !! You are telling me all the Thomson customers staying in the Venetian next week all booked before then. The boxing was only arranged in April.

Thomson claim the hotel will not release them any more rooms either.

Still holding out for Bellagio and £500 and we will take it.

Well done!! It clearly pays to cause a stink!

I thought the Bellagio was absolutely stunning, but I know how it feels when you have you're heart set on something.

Have a blast in Vegas! :spin: :spin:

Probably helped that you just didn't take the change lying down and kicked up a fuss. Wonder how many others they've done the same to?!

Exactly, I bet we've just bumped somebody else off.

They just have to keep trying until somebody agrees to move.

A room is a room to me, but you just have to obey the person in charge ;) And Mrs Blue wanted The Venetian !!

Thanks for all the support, going to be a great 40th birthday !!

Don't forget to try the buffet at the Bellagio - it's fantastic. Wear something elasticated though!

Have a great time.

We stayed at the Venetian in August. Took us three days just to get our bearings !! Even the most basic rooms are huge and awesome. The gym/leisure centre is something else. You will have a great time !!!

Just one more thing, if you have a spare hour check out Madame Tussauds at the Venetian. Residents get a discount. You are allowed to touch the models and stand/sit next to for photos etc. The Chamber of Horrors is scary and very well presented.

I know what you mean. We stayed at the Luxor when we got married, but we're seriously thinking about the Venetian for when we go back for a fifth anniversary trip; great hotel in a great location
