Hi guys

I know it's a long way off next october but so excited I am planng now. I don't know weather to do Discovery Cove or not we are a family of 4 DH isn't bothered I won't do much there as I am not a lover of the water DS 9 would like it although he's not desperate and DS2 willonly just of turned 6 so he don't care either way. It's obviously the price that is making me doubt it will cost about $1000 if not more this is a lot of money and I would have to pay for this when we come home. Help me decide guys! :wavey:

it doesn't sound like any of you are that bothered so i would give it a miss, having said that someone will come on here now and say its a must, when we were there in september our kids were not to bothered so we didn't go

If none of you are really that bothered i'd say spend the money on something you really want to do instead!
I know a lot of people love it and say it's a must do, but it has never appealled to us so i can't see us ever bothering to go there!

Agree with everyone else here.

I haven't done it and don't plan to-its a lot of money that I'd rather spend somewhere else.

From what I have heard you stink of fish for days after! That's enough to put me off I'm afraid! ;)

LOL there's very little fish involved ;)

I've done it three times and will be visiting for the forth time in April. I love it and think it's well worth the money, not just for the dolphin swim (which is good but only 30 or so minutes of the day) but just for the generally relaxing time - the lazy river is fantastic and the coral reef and aviary are also really good. Add to the fact that they limit the number of people there and even if you're not good in water you'll have an excellent time (my Mum doesn't swim but loves it there and even did a 'shallow swim' with the dolphins that didn't involve any deep water).

So basically, as long as I can afford it then I'll always do it, but, if you're not really bothered then it is a lot of money and why spend a day doing something you're not bothered about when you could spend it doing something else you'd enjoy more? Having said that I've never heard anyone that's been say that they didn't love it!

Doesn't sound like it would be your thing then, so spend the money elsewhere.

We went once and wouldn't rush back, so it doesn't do it for everybody.

I LOVE Discovery Cove, and tbh it was the best day of my entire life when I first went there in June, we went twice on our trip in June and are going twice in April too when we go for our honeymoon :)

It was sheer luxury and paradise, the food the atmosphere, the setting, the dolphin swim, the snorkelling, the tropical river, the birds and deer to feed - it really was the most beautiful place i have ever seen!

Having said that I have friends who have been and wouldnt go back! Lol!

So if you dont think you would enjoy it, dont do it :) xx

I've never been before. I would like to see it but I'm not interested in swimming with dolphins as I'm ever so slightly scared of them! Wuss that I am! Is it still worth a visit even without the swim?

got to say after reading about it on here and other sites we were disapointed with it realy, its an ok day but i cant see how people say its the best day of the holiday or such stuff,i'm glad we went, but wouldn't dream of ever going again, even though i thought the cost was reasonable when you add in 7 days at seaworld, for water fun we would much sooner have a day in typhoon lagoon, lazy river is so much better, plus the fantastic wave pool you can also swim with the sharks and like most things, disney just do it better, so for me i would say give it a miss.

For us it was a lovely day. We all enjoyed the dolphin interaction especially since the ohter family booked in at our time didn't turn up so the 4 of us got extra dophin time!. Even if you don't do the dolphin swim I would say consider it. You get 7 day Seaworld or Bush Garden tickets included which can be used before or after your DC visit. You get all your food and drink included. YOu don't have to spend anything at all if you don't want. There are sun bathing areas and sandy beaches as well as coral reef. waterfalls and lazy river. We will be going again in August and think that it is worth every penny.

We went (2 adults & 2 kids) and loved it, but saying that we're not in any hurry to do it again.

If you're not that bothered then save your money for something that you really want to do.

We had a lovely day at DC in August 2006. It was really nice to be able to swim with the dolphins (though honestly the sheer size of them scared my then 10 and 7 year olds a tad), and the rest of the park is absolutely wonderful.

That said, it cost nearly as much to have a day here as it did to buy our Disney annual passes, and I'm not sure I felt it was terrific value for money in comparison with that (sorry!)

I am glad we did it and we did have a lovely day but it is such a lot of money and as you seem a bit ambivalent I would give it a miss. It'll still be there when you go back :)

there is so much to do go with what you all enjoy - saying that my son (6.5) enjoyed it so much it was the highlight of his holiday - and was top of the list of do's for oct 2008 - would you like to watch the dvd?

we went last year and for several reasons we did not really rate it that much. it is a lot of money for what is there. if you are not that bothered you could spend the money on loads of other things in orlando.
to be honest apart from the dolphin swim the new aqatica looks as good if not better.

Oh Gaz

I watched your video before we went to DC in August and it made me excited to go but watching it again now that I've been to DC has reduced me to tears. It has brought back all the memories of our day and reminded me of what a special place DC is.

Thanks for sharing

I would say if two out of the four of you wanted to do it then go, the ones not as bothered can opt out of the Dolphin Swim and save some money (there age limits on the dolphin swim too.) Don't forget you get 7 day Seaworld included so if those tickets are worth something to you then that also brings down the relative cost. Don't forget the day's food and drinks are included.

I have said all that and we haven't been! I researched for Christmas Day last year as I thought our three (10, 14 and 17 DDs) would love it. They all love water etc. However, I decided not to keep it a surprise and asked them first, not one of them was that keen, and thought it wasn't fair on the dolphins. Even talking to people who had been, and reassured them it wasn't cruel, didn't convince them. DH and I were just going to go for the non dolphin swim and take the photos and enjoy the surroundings.

So I am glad I didn't book it as a surprise!!

Hi, DC is a wonderful experience and don't begrudge a penny spent in going there - but if you not into water and swimming it can be an expensive event. We loved the swim with the dolphins - never done it before and was great to be interacting with them BUT it only lasts for 1/2 hr (apart from the Intro talk before you get into the pool). We love tropical/marine fish so we were in our element swimming amongst them and the ray pool was great. Lazy river is like swimming in bath water (we went in Dec and it was nice and warm in the water). If you are not into water/swimming I would think twice. The kids may appreciate it more when they are a little older. Hope this has been of some help.
