Hi we are looking at holidays for next Christmas. DH came up with the idea of a few days in New York followed by a week or so in Florida using our DVC points. Has anyone combined these two places? Any tips on who to book with? We saw online that you can take two trains from NY to Orlando but if we read it right, it takes 19 hours!!! Not such a problem for us, but we have two children who would probably get quite bored after a while and, as you know, bored = grumpy :D
Any suggestions gratefully received.
If the above doesnt work out, we are considering skiing in Banf or Whistler instead so if any of you have stayed at a private lodge/chalet there and have any info, that would be helpful also.
Many thanks

We have been back four weeks and did one week in florida, then went mco with american airline costing 50 each to new york ,did two days there then went back from newark airport with contential to mco costing 34 each, did another week in florida and then had three day disney cruise fab.
We did this last year (see trippie linked below) and will do it again in the future. Val (Cinders Mum) sorted our flights and NY accommodation - we flew with Continental, as this gave us the NY days as a 'free' stopover.

Great thanks for the info - will settle down and have a read of your trippies this afternoon Mike. I asked DH to find out about flight prices yesterday, don't know which sites he was looking on but the flight fro NY to MCO was coming up at £1k for the four of us! I will have a look at AA and Continential instead.
Thanks guys
We are doing it in April - flying to NY, spend a weekend there and then flying down to MCO, followed by another weekend in NY on the return. We booked JFK-MCO-JFK on Jetblue at www.jetblue.com - price was $200 (£100) per person for the 5 of us. :thumbs-up
Gaz went via NY in the Summer and has done a trip report too.
Going via NY appears bery popular at the moment as quite a few of us Dibbers are doing it in 2008. :wavey:

we did it in 05, worked out well, booked though local TA, manchester to heathrow, heathrow to newark, then newark to orlando.
price differnce between NYC and orlando is amazing, we ate at TGI fridays in manhattan, 5 of us, cost $110. at tgi fridays in orlando, we decided to have same as we had in manhattan, cost $60.
but forget price differnce, NYC is well worth doing.

Hi Deb,
Just this September we flew into NY in the middle of our Florida 3 week trip. We flew with AA and i think it cost around £60 - 70 each return.
If we wanted to incorporate NY and Orlando in the future, we would go at either the beginning or the end, not the middle. It messes things up and makes the holiday appear shorter as you start to pack and unpack and get ready for it.
We met up with a friend of mine in NY and it was nice only having a 2 hour flight back from LGA whilst she had a 8 hour flight back home. We were safely sat in our Jacuzzi sipping champers whilst she was sat 38,000 up.
Just came back from NY-Florida-Vegas (about to write TR) and flew Delta from JFK to MCO and Continental to LAS (via Houston). Flew Business Class, costing £300 each approx.

We use JetBlue between New York & MCO or Tampa fairly regularly.
They have several flights a day to both destinations. The average we pay for a one way ticket is $99 each though it can range up to $129 depending on the day of travel.
They are great. The legroom is wonderful, leather seats & they have DirecTV on board.

We are looking at doing new york and florida for the new year, we aim to leave lgw on 26dec and fly to New York spend 3 days. We will then hire a car and drive to Orlando with 1 overnight stop ? then into a villa for another 10 days.
We are still in the working out stages and it is looking possible we have found a lovely B&B in NY and a villa close to Celebrations now we have to get a car and wait for flights to become available.
Just be wary that at that time of year you could encounter blizzards, snow drifts etc in New England so it might not be as easy to drive as you think.
We did this last August and loved it. NY was so great we went back in November. we booked out flights with VA into JFK NY and return from Orlando. we then booked one way with American airlins for $99 each, it was a two and a half hour flight. there are various arlines with various times available, we booked an early morning one (about 9ish) that way we could make to most of the FOTL passes as we were staying in the HRH. i did a trip report if you are interested in reading it.
