Space Mountain closure is just a rumour at the moment and won't be on Disney Web site until it is confirmed. However, it does look like it's going to be closed from June 08 - May 09 for a complete ride renovation, totally gutting the building and removing existing ride completely.

Disney's goal is to build "Space Mountain 2" to help the compete with Harry Potter at IOA...

I hope this rumour is wrong as we haven't done this ride yet, we tried in 2004 but it broke down for the whole day we were in MK. :( Could'nt they wait until after we come home.

Well at least we know the new Space Mountain should be good, once it gets done. The California version seems to have had a really good reception, it's just a shame it'll probably be down when we next go.

It's about time they did something with space Mountain, it's an awful ride , so jerky and no decent drops. I've heard the one in DLP is much better.

the one in dlp is way better but the last time i went on space mountain orlando was 1997 so it has got to have changed

The one in DLP is alot better than the one in Orlando. If i'm honest the Orlando one really needs to change!

The DLP version is completely different to WDW's. DLP's is more like RnR with a launch and inversions. You have to remember that WDW's Space Mountain opened in 1975 so it's no spring chicken, it does need updating, but it'll be a shame to see the current version go, as it was designed by Disney himself.

I really hope they don't make it like the one at DLP! The ride is so painful. It is really not smooth and i have been on it a couple of times and each time i get off i have an awful headache and my ears are red raw!

If the DLP ride was smoother then i would tend to agree that it is better but not the way it currently is.

it needs updating, WDW needs better thrill rides, only TOT, RnR and Everest are any good. TT, BTM and Splash Mountain aren't really thrill rides imo, (they are good rides though)

Oh No my son was really looking forward to going on this ride for the first time next year, hope it's still open then, although if they are only updating it I don't suppose it's to bad.

Is this the ride with loads of like strobe lights and you walk for ages when you come out..If so I did not rate this and would have given it a miss anyway.

I totally agree with you Leanne - the DLP version is very jerky and my head throttles from side to side on it - in fact, I went on it once and whilst queuing up to go on it again, it broke down - can't say I wasn't secretly relieved!!! :d:

I love the Orlando version, as it is so much fun - even if it is 25 years old nearly! Okay, some of the paintwork inside could do with updating on the hand rails I noticed recently and maybe it could be spruced up internally with newer special effects, but the whole ride is considered quite a classic in many roller coaster fans eyes! :wavey:

I have to agree, I got really beaten up by the one at DLP. DW won't go on it again. I'm surprised with the amount of head battering you get that they're allowed to run it. Much prefer the Florida one but a bit of an update would be welcome.

Cheers

I like the fact that the rides at Disney aren't particularly thrill rides. My dd and I have a great time on Space Mountain, if they make it too much of a thrill then we won't ride it anymore and that would be a shame.
