We are hoping to go to Aberdeen for a few days after Christmas.

Can anyone recommend a good hotel? Nothing too fancy but somewhere nice to take our DD (age1) to?

My DH usually stays in the Premier Travel Inn for work so something different for a change would be good.

Hotel accommodation is very hard to find now in Aberdeen, especially at a time when offshore crew changes will be very busy between Christmas and New Year, and prices may be very high

The Patio Hotel is ideally located beside the beach and the entertainment complex, but will probably be very expensive. The Premier Travel Inn which is just off King Street? This would be an almost as good location.

We stayed at the Thistle in Aberdeen many years ago. It possibly isn't even called that now though. It bears no relevance to this thread really - I just came over all nostalgic

I rather fancy a jaunt to Aberdeen myself :)

Which one Jools, there is one at Altens and one at the airport, where I stay quite a lot - very nice hotel, but location good for before early morning flight but not for the city.

Hotel prices in Aberdeen are usually very high midweek but there are bargains to be had at weekends, not sure there will be bargains over the festive period at weekends, normally weekends are very quiet flying days for offshore but flight numbers will be increased at weekends over the festive period as there will be reduced or no flights on the Mon, Tues, Wed

However a lot of the business community may be on holiday, no training courses organized so there may be availability at good prices.

Another in a good location is the Holiday Inn Express off Union Street at the top end, have never stayed there but been there on courses.
Some peopel I know also use the Travelodge on Union Street if going through for nights out etc.

Thanks Georgemac,

It doesn't need to be that close to the centre of Aberdeen as we are mainly going through to visit friends who are spread out all over Aberdeen. Unfortunately I don't think we will get a night out as our DD Laura goes to bed at 7pm!

We stayed at the Patio hotel a couple of years ago but it was very noisy with cars racing abong the sea front.

Thanks for your suggestions!

George it was many years ago, but I think it was the one at the airport. We travelled by train from Newcastle and stayed for a night in the Thistle before getting a morning flight to Lerwick where we were joing an oil tanker where Bill was an marine engineer.

I remember thinking it was a dead 'posh' hotel as it had tea and coffee in the room ;). Well we were very young and used to only staying in cheap B and B's, but hey the company paid for the Thistle :D

The thistle altens would be the cheaper option, only 3-4 min drive or 5 min on a bus to city center and will be very quiet as not on bouley basher strip
