I would think it would take at least half an hour to walk from the boundary of Disney property on 192 (where most Villas are nearest) to a place where you could catch a Disney Bus and there would not be convenient paths for you.

In my opinion in a villa you need a car or taxis. Off site hotel you can manage with a shuttle bus, on site hotel Disney transport.

But also if you are in a villa you will need transport to shops and restaurants as well.

As Andy_B said, I think even the closest villas are a 30 minute walk, and you would be on our own, I have never seen anyone walking into Disney, im not sure the roads even have pavements!

I guess you could look for a villa close to disney property, walk there and catch the bus from there, but I wouldnt recommend it at all.

You can usually get a car hire for a very reasonable rate so I would highly recommend getting a car.

The costs from the car can be offset by dining offsite, and the savings you make by just having some meals like breakfast in the villa itself, and the villas that are a 30 minute walk are only 5 minutes in a car.

Walk!!!!!!!! it's way to hot and a bit dangerous.
We saw people walking at night near the I4 kissimme junction, not great.
There are buses run from the hotels etc, a cab would not cost much either.
Personally i think a hire car is worth its weight in gold, but then i do like driving.

Unless you have been here before it is very hard to comprehend how big Disney area actually is. Just to go from the car park to the park entrance requires transport.

We are here at the moment staying in a Villa and couldnt imagine doing it without car hire. Once you have bought your park tickets but can live very cheaply here. Even using the car to go to a Walmart/Publix supermarket offers big savings on shopping in corner store shops.

The closest villa communities would be around a 10-15 minute drive to WDW, none are within walking distance and the area is really not geared up for pedestrians. If you really don't want to hire a car I'd recommend either staying in a Disney resort or somewhere offsite with a good shuttle service.

I thought wazzimama had been before...

Somewhere like Cypress Pointe is within walking distance of the disney gates, but even if it was 1/2 hour to the gate, then you'd be looking at another 10-15 to Downtown Disney to catch a bus - I think it would be a very false economy.

Support others in the fact you need to have some form of transport to stay in a villa and visit Disney - You can get a basic vehicle for a very reasonable price.
