DS has X box live and would like to play it using our wireless connection. I was a bit shocked to find the adaptor the the X box is £60. I take it Microsoft have made it so no other (cheaper) adaptors will fit. Does anyone know otherwise.

As far as I know you can only use the official adapter. Sometimes Gamestation have offers on these and you can get them for about £45 but we have been watching the cost for a few months thinking we might get DS one and they have stayed quiet constantly around the £55 mark in most shops.

Hi Judy,

There are alternatives to the official Xbox wireless adapter, such as this:
(I'm not allowed to post links - so search for "Wireless Bridge" on Amazon or other electronic retailers)

The general consensus is that the official adapter is best for ease of connectivity- it slots into a ready made gap on the back of the xbox with a small, discreet aerial to improve the signal. Its a neat bit of kit and works flawlessly. The only complaints are of the cost, not functionality.

Other adapters will need configuring and can be a pain, although they should work well. Bear in mind that if Hubby plays on Xbox Live that a wired connection is always better than wireless for PING speeds.

My advice would be to bite the bullet and get the official one.

agree with the others I looked around to see if there was another option but it seemed like to much bother setting it all up so I went with the official one-the only other suggestion I can give is I know that BT were offering the adaptor free if you signed up for the internet with them but that was a few months ago so not sure if they are still doing it

we have got two x boxes and have run cables through the loft roof down into a whole in the ceiling to plug in as the wireless connections are not very good according to my 17 year old son as the connection freezes and drops alot.
