Hiya
Our computer crashed just before Xmas and we lost EVERYTHING  :( its now sorted and things are being found and sorted except for all the music/photos/videos of DD on the Video Ipod....is there any way I can take all the info from the ipod without using Itunes? ( as I know it will wipe it clean if I use Itunes :confused2 )
I seem to have saved some of the photos but not all and I dont understand why not all of them are there - ANY help would be much appreciated - as I am more upset about losing stuff on the ipod than anything.

there are some software packages designed for this - I don't know if any are free - this one has a trial version (http://www.filedudes.com/iPod_recovery_software-getfile-40173.html) but don't know what the trial limitations are
Try this free application also yamipod (http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/) - says you can move files in both directions

We used Pod Util which worked really well. It was $9.99, if you goggle it you should find it.

you can possibly still use itunes and just switch your ipd to disk mode rather than auto sync and then you can just browse it as an additional drive on your pc
This happened to me a while back. Tried some of the free utilities - but ended up paying for one - it worked okay - but took forever.
Since then the ipod library and all my photos has gone to a portable hard drive

There is a way to do it like this - but before you connect open itunes/preferences/sync/disable auto syncing
try ipodlounge for instructions if you want to try this method

Thanks for that tip, it was really useful. I was getting fed up with the auto sync as my DD's keep changing things and I end up with their playlists instead :erm:
