Hi,

My family and I (wife and 3 kids aged 5, 9 and 12) are going to Disney for the first time in October and staying at Port Orleans Riverside. (can somebody tell me it is good please?)

My question is about Dinner theater shows. In the unofficial guide by Bob Sehlinger it says these can be booked more than 180 days in advance (page 761). I called Disney and the operater told me she could not make a booking on the computer system more than 180 days in advance.

We were interested in the Hoop Dee Doo Revue and Spirit of Aloha.

Who is correct? and/or is there a different number or system for making hard reservations rather than advanced reservations?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Both of the shows you mention can be booked 180 days in advance. Mickeys Backyard BBQ can be booked a year in advance.:)

Oh sorry forgot to say...Welcome to the Dibb!!!!

Both the dinner shows you mention can be booked 180 days ahead of the date you want to attend. As an onsite guest you can make reservations for your first 10 days at 180 days ahead of your arrival date. Disney Dining will make ADRs for these by telephone on 001 407 939 3463 (WDW DINE) payment required at time of booking, so you'll need a credit card.

i was also told you could book Mickeys BBQ 1 year in avance but when i phoned up they stood to there guns on the 180 day rule,
Also i needed the disney 12 digit booking referance number to book 180 days plus 10 but my travel operator, thomas cook, would not under any circumstance give me it, i asked for 3 weeks running, speaking to every one i could, store manager said they just could not give it out,, they seemed to think i was going to book the DDp with someone else,, really annoid me as i wanted to make sure i got all my ADRs, lucky for me i did but could have done with out the hassle from TC

It really does depend on which Cast Member you get when you phone. We had the hassle of the Disney reference number too when we went in 2006. We finally managed to get it phoned back and a different CM didn't even ask for it!!
It is frustrating but if you know that they are giving you the wrong information you are best to just politely hang up and redial.

Welcome to the Dibb!

We didn't have the Disney reference as we booked through a travel agent to stay at Port Orleans Riverside. I explained this to the Cast Member when I called 180 days in advance and she went ahead and let me book for the first 10 days of my holiday. I guess it depends who you get through to.

We're not staying at Port Orleans until April, but it's had some great reviews on here.

Thanks for the information and welcome.

We booked with Thomas Cook so if I can't get a reference I will ring on 180 days and hopefully be able to book the 10 days in advance also.

I never actually wanted to go to Disney before and shocked my wife when I said we should go but now I am seriously worrying her because I am getting strangely obsessive about it.

Nice one (I can't quite say have a magical day yet)

This will be our 1st stay at POR, i have requested Aligator Bayou, in or near Building 14 (i think), just to be near the Food court to keep the Mugs refilled, lol

Oh dear, that's just how it starts, you're done for now... welcome to the club! :)

I've never been asked for my booking confirmation number when making 180+10 ADRs, but they do always ask for the resort and my arrival date. They don't seem to check it at all though, but as has been said these things can often depend on the cast member that you happen to get to speak to when you call. Just ring them at 180 days before you arrive and see how you get on (I once even had a CM who allowed me to book 180+14 for my whole stay, to save me another phone call later in the week)

POR seems to get almost universal praise from people who stay there, just do a search on this site for "Port Orleans" or "Riverside" (sadly just "POR" won't work as three-letter words can't be searched for on the DIBB). There's a thread going on at the moment in fact: http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=185234. There is lots of general info around too, and I'm working on a site myself as it happens: www.portorleans.org (http://www.portorleans.org) (very much a work-in-progress at the moment).

The one main tip I'd give you is to try to get a room fairly close to the main building as it's a massive resort and if you do get located in one of the more remote buildings it can be a bit of a walk back to the food court, etc. See the resort map on my site for an idea of the layout.

Thanks for advice.

How do you go about trying to get a room nearer the main building?

Cheers
