As some of you know, I have an autistic son, Ben, who is 12.

Well, since the new 2008 calender went up on the first, he has been going on about our "Florida holiday 2008" (as he calles it) ever since, and as you can see we still have 190+ days to go!!!! :omg:

At the weekend, I was reading one of the many guidebooks on WDW etc when Ben came upto me and was saying "Florida papers", so I was showing him thebook thinking that was what he wanted, but no, he just kept on repeating it and was pointing to the storage boxes on top of the wardrobe, and then, all of a sudden, he came out with "Florida timetable" :erm:

Well, bless him, he means our itinery - so, even though we have yet to book the flights and are not entirely sure which day we are definately flying out on yet (won't be long, probably booking next week!!) he wants his itinery planned out already!!!

I know that he loves his itinery when we are on holiday (he is so typically autistic, his life revolves around his timetable at school, though we are so lucky that modifications can be made, as long they are written on the timetable/itinery!!), but I do think this is pushing it abit far.

I know once the flights have been booked and the 180 days for ADRs approach, I will be (rather sadly) preparing my itinery, but it appears that my son has well and truely caught the Disney bug like me now and can't wait to know what we will be getting up to in the summer!!!!

(Oh, and I did try and fobb him off with the 2006 itinery on the computer but he was having none of that either, every day now, he asks for Florida Timetable, I keep saying in February, but he still keeps on asking!!!! :d: )

LOL Sharon at least he's keen :d:

DS likes to know what we are roughly doing when we are there and as long as I tell him where we are going the night before he is OK. One thing he does love though is his park maps and he has to get one for each park / place we visit. I guess it's his own little PECS system :D

Even though we aren't going for ages, my 15-year-old daughter has made up a 'countdown calendar', and we all love crossing the days off, including my autistic boys. I think it's a good way of helping them understand the 'time' concept.

Nine months to go, tomorrow!

Awww bless him, he can come with me, I love to plan but my lot think itineraries are barmy!

Maybe you could introduce him to the itineraries forum on here and he can help everyone out with their planning.

Ahh, bless him Sharon.

Josh has started watching the MK DVD again the last few days. He's the exact opposite when it comes to itineraries though, if he gets too excited it causes more seizures. We learnt that the hard way 2 years ago so now we keep everything low key until the morning we fly.

We are planning on a day by day plan for Josh though when we are there and also a calendar so he knows when we are coming home.

How fantastic, gotta say i've got ages left and mine is well and truly organised - far too excitable myself so he's not alone! :pgig:

Ah bless him. If you know when in February you are likely to have made the decisions necessary to make your itinery you could always try making him a countdown calendar until 'timetable' day.

The thing is I'm now beginning to get the jitters myself about an itinery too cos he keeps saying about it!!!!

I was reading the Brits 2008 Guide and the Unofficial Guide til about 2am last night :erm: thinking about what to do on the first day and what to do if we are out there on Ben's birthday, so "in theory" I have already sorted 2/3 days already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :pgig: :pgig: :pgig: (I will let you into the secret once the flights are booked, I don't wanna jinx myself at the moment!!)

Have told my sister that I think next week maybe the week to book the flights, just so that I can get planning with Ben.

That's a good idea about the countdown, I think I have one on the computer which I can do for him and mark the days off on the calender, if he gets too insistent, at the moment though, I think the "timetable" will satisfy his inpatience for the time being!!! (Well that's the hope anyway!!! :d: )

Hey Sharon!

I've not been online for a while cos I had pneumonia, but we took our son Ben, who is severely autistic and epileptic, to WDW for his 18th b'day just b4 Christmas. His b'day is Christmas Eve, so we thought it best to take him b4, so he could be home for his real bday.

We have been a few times already, so know a few 'tricks'! We bought an Advent calendar this year, so he could count down the days. We also got him to write down the things he wanted to do when we got there, and he wrote down exactly the same list as last time! But hey, if it makes life calmer..... ;)

Don't forget to ask for the Guest Assistance Card at Guest Relations at the entrance of the theme parks. He won't have to queue so long.

Ben has been 'going on' about 'Orlando' for the last three years, and each New Year he would change the year, ie Orlando 2006 please Mommy...

Since we got back, Ben has had his 'fix' of Disney, for the moment!!
I dare say there may be something he forgot to do while we were there, so we will end up going back again one day. Just hope the magic of Disney helps us win the Lottery!!

my ds has one of those sticky note pad squares which his grandad sat and wrote a count down on and he peels one off every night before he goes to bed, this has stopped him asking how many sleeps continuasouly so i have to remember, he now tells me how many there are which is alot easier. ;)
