Hi

I wonder if anyone could give me their opinion or advice. My daughter has an Acer laptop which is about 3 years old. The problem is that it now wont' charge up or turn on and now it's "died" it wont charge or turn on anymore. About 6 months ago she had a new battery charger (the bit that goes from the plug hole in the wall to a box and then into the laptop) does that make sense :confused2 !! do bear with my technical terms !!! I'm wondering if the problem could be the internal battery ?? As you can probably tell I'm so technically minded !!! NOT. Before I go and try and get one of the internal batteries I would really appreciated any advice.

It is probably the connection where the power lead connects to the laptop-we have 3 Acers unfortunately-1 has been repaired under guarantee,1 has been repaired 3 times and has now died completley and the 3rd has the power cord taped in so it cant move !the price I was quoted to repair made it uneconomical so I had to buy a new laptop-NOT an ACER!!I know another Dibber has had a similar problem but Acer wont admit there is a fault

Your laptop shouldn't need the battery in for it to work. Try taking the battery out, plugging in the power adapter and switching on. Also, is there a light (ususally green) on the power adapter when you plug it in to the mains? If not, it's probably the adapter that's faulty.

Someone at work may have an adapter you could try. Most are fairly universal. My DS's best mate has an Acer and my Dell charger works with it. If it's the connector then you can get one from Maplins for 89p
Just find someone who can use a soldering iron to put the new one on.

Be careful if borrowing an adapter. They're not all the same voltage. We have one older Acer that's a 19v and a newer one that's 15v.

Hi

Many thanks for all your info, much appreciated. Daughter has a friend who has the same adapter so I'll try that as a starting point see how we get on.

Update: After going back to basics and checking all leads etc you are spot on with your diagnosis!!! it is the connection :omg: .
