we don't have any problems with sky broadband really, there was a problem when it was first installed but that was at our end and they got bt out straight away
we've had good customer service and very cheap bills too!

I changed to sky from Bt a couple of months ago, for the 1st couple of weeks my Internet would go off but i just turned my router off for a min and it would be fine. About 4 weeks ago i came home from work and my router was making a very strange noise and i had no Internet. When i phoned sky up and said my Internet kept going off and wont come back on, before i mentioned the noise he asked me if it was making a noise and if it was to turn it off as it might go on fire!!!!!!
They replaced it the next day with a black one (the other was a white one). I'm assuming they where having probs with them and have changed the ones they send out now. I've had no problems with them now though, i get full speed with sky which is more than i can say for BT :(
Hope i haven't scared you off. Just make sure you get a black router. :)

I'm pretty sure the white routers Sky used to supply were Netgear DG834's?. These are generally pretty well thought of.

I am in the process of changing supplier and was looking at sky. I am going to pay the £5 a month one. Have the problems been with the free package? Sorry  for hijacking but it might be of interest to other dibbers who might be about to change as well :thumbs-up

This is interesting to me too. I am currently tied to BT until the end of the year but am very interested in going with Sky once it ends. I have the SKy+ with multiroom and have compared all my costs. Even with BT line rental and keeping my SKY package as it is I would save over £30 a month! Thats also with the Sky talk anytime package. Seems a good deal and BT speed is crap at the minute. Used to be good but seems to have dropped considerably in the last year or so.

Could be worth looking at thinkbroadband.com for reviews etc.

Must admit I keep thinking about it because of the cost savings but I really don't want to be tied into a long term contract incase a new provider is pants :confused2

Does anyone know if choosing an LLU operator means a better service?

saving £20 / month and had no problems :cool2:
i have one of the new black routers, may not have the brand name of the white one but i have had no issues at all

I moved to sky and paid the extra £5 per month, my connection went off all the time, had to keep switching modem off. Service I had from Sky was terrible even though they admitted in an email that they were sending it down the line too fast they still would not refund the 5 per month I paid for 6 months. There was no way I could have downloaded a song never mind a movie it wouldnt stay on long enough

Eventually I managed to get them to cancel it and have moved to BT Home hub with broadband phone too. Had no problems with BT and none with Tiscali who I was with prior to sky

My Uncle tried to get his to work for 3 months before sky finally gave up

On the other hand my mother has sky broadband and hers very rarely goes off

I guess you just have to try it and see if you are lucky or not. If you are you can save a fortune

Another reason why I asked was Sky was recommended to me by a work colleague who has had no problems with it at all and cannot sing its praises highly enough. So i just thought I'd see what people think from their experiences.

ive had sky B/Band for a good few months and although we had a number of issues on set up (down to trying to rid my pc of AOL and the fact that the engineer that was attempting to set it up was a sky engineer who had less idea about B/Band than me!!) once it has been up and running its been superb.
As fast as advertised (once they slowed the speed they were sending it out) and mega quick compared to other providers I have had.

Word of warning tho---access to emails if you use the sky email system can still be hot and cold. We have an identical ink of sky emails in a hotmail account and often it is just simply quicker to view our inbox in there rather than try to access under sky!

I went from BT to Sky and have had problems.
Seems astrange thing to say but when it's working it's fine, the speed is good as well.(faster than with BT)
BUT, quite often the internet just stops working and about half the time a reboot of the router will work, but half the time a reboot dosent work and you just have to wait until it decides to work again !

Sky broadband is not available to us out in the sticks, but I do use a netgear DG834 router, in fact I am using a Sky one, and it is a very good bit of kit - a white one, but I have got rid of the Sky firmware. It does occasionally drop the connection, but seems to have been fine for ages now since I changed the wireless channel I have been using - think I may have been suffering from interference from other wireless routers around me.

To change the wireless channel log in to the router (default for netgear is admin and password - sky rDG934G routers is admin and sky)

Click on wireless settings on the left of the page

Change the channel number using the drop down menu

Scroll down and click apply

I then always restart the router after making a change

I have been using DG834's for about 2 to 3 years, always been very reliable.

Sky are now supplying black Sagem F@st 2504 or Netgear DG934G, the netgear one looks specifically locked for sky use.

Looks like sky broadband is available in the sticks now but looking at the costs not sure I would save much

Only option would be Sports+Movies (don't have or need movies) mix at £50 + £11 BT line rental, + caller display gues total would be £62 per month + cost of daytime calls so say £65-£70 per month.

Currently £38 per month Sky sports, Tiscali phone + BB working out at £30 per month so much the same for me. Minus movies.
