Myself and DH were just discussing which restaurants we would like to try in December. We would really like to give this one a go.:)

So just looking for opinions really? Any food recommendations for DH(meat eater) and myself(veggie)?

Also any opinions from those that have taken children here. Is it child friendly? My boys will be 6 and 8.

Thanks in advance.

We have not been here before but we too really fancy this for our next trip (August). It gets a good review in The Unofficial Guide ...' (85% positive customer response). There are lunch & dinner menus on AllEars.net
( http://www.allears.net/tp/ep/ep_rest.htm )

It was the menus on Allearsnet and the podcast that made us want to go!!:tounge:

They seem to have a good selection of veggie meals and it does seem to be getting great reviews at the moment.

I think we will definately try it. I would love to try the restaurant upstairs too(Bistro De Paris), but not with the boys.:confused2

Have a look through some of McSue's food reports. This is one of her and Paul's regular haunts I think.

Hi Pam, thanks, yes i am a regular reader.:thumbs-up Sue doesn't seem to have been around for a while so i can't get a view from the horses mouth so to speak.:confused2

We are considering having this restaurant with the Candlelight Procession package.

We don't plan to make a huge amount of ADR's so we want to make sure we pick right.

Think Su & Paul are over there at the moment. Can't remember if she's going to Chefs though! I'm pretty sure it's one of their favourites. We've only had the lunch menu du jour there but that was very good as I remember but it was a few years ago now. I'm sure it would be a good one to do and may try for an ADR next trip - so I can let you know!

not much help I'm afraid but I was also thinking of trying it on our next trip instead of Le Cellier which I wasn't as impressed with considering its reputation :)

Me neither Debs. We were rather underwhelmed and couldn't really see why it has the reputation it does.:confused2

But glad we tried it. But everything i hear of Chefs De France at the moment is glowing.:)

Hopefully Sue will go to Chefs and report back for us!!:tounge:

we love chefs de france and go at least once per trip (have 2 visits planned for our april trip). it has always been fine for dd (now nearly 4) and we were last there in december. they now have a ratatouille theme for the kids menu (the menu comes on a cardboard chefs hat with ratatouille on). the host and servers were great with dd and she loved the food. for your dh they do a great fillet steak with potato dauphinoise (?sp). the french onion soup is lovely though filling, and the profiteroles filled with ice cream is a fab dessert. sorry i'm not veggie so i don't know the options (can look in april if you want). will try and add in a pic of dd with her chef hat...

Aww bless her thats a lovely pic.:o:

Thank you for all your info. We have decided to definately go. We are now trying to decide whether to just go for a regular ADR or do Chefs with the Candlelight Procession Package. Have you done the package? If so, can you order anything on the menu? I think i heard you can't have the lobster which is fine.

Sorry for all the questions but any idea what the kids menu had on it? Wondered if the menu i have is up to date.

Thanks for your help.

i can't remember for sure but i think it was the usual disney kids menu (based on what she ate the rest of the 2 weeks she probably had salad, chicken strips and chips and ice cream with choc milk).
we have always liked it but had particularly god service last time, very friendly and funny host who came back during the meal to check everything was ok, and the servers (not just our own) stopping to talk to dd and make sure she was ok

Leanne, we are eating here in April and I will try and remember to report back :)

The only time we had tried before was on NYE 04 and even with an ADR it was total chaos and we had to bail out before getting our table, so we are looking forward to going this time :)

That's such a cute hat on Katie's DD!

It's a really good idea doing the Candlelight Processional dinner package - the queues get very long and this means you bypass them :thumbs-up

Leanne, Jane and I had lunch there in December, based on McSue's trippies :thumbs-up

We had an early sitting at mid day and it wasn't busy so I can't comment on what it will be like later/for dinner, but we really enjoyed it. The food and service was very good, a very enjoyable experience. The only thing I would say, and it's not exactly negative as such, is that I had the burger and it was a little fatty (i.e. not like a typical burger) - I'd read reports on other sites about this but it didn't bother me, whilst I enjoyed it I'm not sure children would find it too appetising.

Oh glad you said that Clare, will tell my ds's to avoid the Burgers as I doupt they would eat them like that and they would normally choose them :)

we have eaten out for every meal (brekkie, lunch and dinner) in all our 9 trips to orlando and this is the only restaurant i would not return to.

we have tried and and failed to get in every year, so last year made an ADR from home, what a disappointment. food bland and very slow service, even though the restaurant was not full when we arrived for our 5pm ADR.

ate in germany in epcot in 2006 as thats all that was left in 2006 and after avoiding eating there for all our other trips, dont know why just did not fancy it, we had a great meal.

mexico, china,uk and canada were all nice though. hoping to eat in italy this year as this is the only restaurant we have not been to in at epcot.

all kids meals in disney are standard pizza, hot dogs, fries etc our DD is 7 now and she mostly eats of the adult menu now, can't comment on the veggie menus, sorry.

have you tried any downtown disney restaurants we really like wolfgang puck and fultons crab house (mainly seafood but they do steaks and other meat dishes) or the blue zoo in the dolphin hotel near epcot ( best seafood i have ever had )

Thanks everyone for your help.:thumbs-up

Karen, i would love to hear what you think when you get back from your April trip.
Clare, thanks for the tip about the burgers. My boys are so fussy anyway and they tend not to eat burgers, but good to know in case they did pick it.

Paul, thank you for your opinion too. Really sorry you didn't have a good experience. We have tried so many WDW restaurants we are trying to do some in December that we have yet to try. We too enjoyed Wolfgang Pucks but were a little disappointed with Le Cellier.:confused2

I think we will still give it a go at the Chefs. DH is quite desperate to go as he listens to the Dis unplugged podcast so often and they gave it a brilliant review.:thumbs-up

I am a firm believer of trying things for yourself and if we don't like it we just won't go back.

I already have a few possibles on my list,
Donalds Safari Breakfast
Chefs De France
Boma dinner
California Grill(poss Christmas Day)
Narcoossees(poss romantic meal while the kids are at the Neverland Club)
'Ohana breakfast
Spiderman breakfast at IOA
Beaches and Cream

Ahhhh, it feels good to be planning again.:spin:

I had this salad in December-

Salade de Chevre Chaud - Baked goat cheese with walnuts, fresh grapes, tomatoes, endives and arugula salad $10.95

It was yummy.

We had a really nice relaxing lunch. The children loved it,they are veggie too and had the cheese pastry with veg.

While this is a high proportion of this sort of food, we did find most of the nicer restaurants offered at least one decent choice, my DD had steak in quite a few restaurants, and tried the French Onion Soup and a few other 'grown up' choices as well.

Chef's de France offers Pan Roasted Flounder as well as chicken strips and burgers.
