View Full Version : Getting rid of the words "Tiscali 10" at top of page

I know this has been asked before - probably by me! I have the words "Tiscali 10.0" in the bar at the very top of my screen. Don't know why as I'm with Virgin (unless the companies are connected somehow). I've got Windows XP and know I can change it but where do I look please?

Normally you have to go into the registry to change the title which can be dangerous unless you know what you are doing, but there is another way. If you copy this script into notepad then save it as chgietitle.vbs then double click on it it will retrieve the registry key for you then you can change it to what you like.

[Script removed by Octal because it is probably too old]

Paul - tried that but it didn't work. I have changed the registry key before - I just can't remember where to find it. What happened was that I had to set up myself as a new user as my old profile got screwed up. So hence the "tiscali" thing. Would you be willing to PM me with the details of how to do it?

I must admit I used to use that script on Windows 98 when I last used it. If you are happy playing with the registry then try this:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type Regedit
Press OK

Then:

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Main

Select Edit from the menu

Select New > String Value Now double-click this entry and insert your text. Close the Registry editor and restart Internet Explorer

sounds like at some time you had a tiscali version of internet explorer

you could try just going and downloading internet explorer instead

although you wont catch me using internet explorer when I can use firefox for browsing much better and safer in my opinion

Downloading IE again probably won't work because it will most likely pick up the old registry entry and put the old name back.

I agree about IE, but then again I don't use Windows on the internet anyway so I can't use IE.

Fantastico! It's all done now. Thank you very much. Where would I be without you, Paul.

Last time I did it (many, many moons ago) I remember actually finding the word "Tiscali" and amending that - but I can't find it this time. I also remember it wasn't where I was told it was going to be. LOL.

I do also use Firefox but at the moment prefer the layout of IE. Perhaps it's a case of getting used to it. Never, ever knowingly had Tiscali. Most of the time it has been Virgin.

Thanks everyone.

Great! I'm glad it's sorted. I'm sure there is a little program that allows you to change the title, but at the moment I can't think of what it's called. It is quite a common problem.

Yeah, there is a small program that does it, but I can't remember what it is either. What a lot of use we are, eh? :) <thinks> Does TweakUI do it?

That's the problem Andre, I can't remember because not being a Windows user so I'm useless at times as well. It's been years since I used TweakUI but you could well be right. I used to use the little script I posted earlier on Win98 but it doesn't appear to work on the newer systems.

Well, I think you're both absolutely great. So take a pat on the back each. ;)
