Anybody got any experience of the Guitar Centre on the Orange Blossom Trail?? My DS wants to spend all his $$ there. :)

We visited Guitar Center last June. My nephew wanted to buy a guitar with money he got for his birthday. As we were driving from the airport to our apartment, there was an ad on Real Rock 101.1 for a sale, ending at midnight the next day. I had already promised Chris we would take him to Guitar Center on our first day but this made it even more attractive.
They have literally hundreds of guitars and all other sorts of musical instruments too. You can lift guitars off the display racks, plug them in to one of the amps and play 'til your heart's content. Chris must've been there for about 4 hour :erm: His Dad stayed with him and the rest of us went shopping elsewhere ;)
He ended up buying a Fender Stratocaster and I think they threw in the flight case, strap and some picks. From what I can remember, it was about $1400, but they were quite willing to negotiate.
I think they have a website and I know that Chris e-mailed them before we went. They actually phoned him at home for a chat and said that, as we were there for 3 weeks, they should be able to get him whatever he wanted within that time. They were very good to deal with.
PM me if you have any other questions and I'll find out for you asap.

Can I ask - how did he get it home? Was it put in the hold? Or carry on? And who did you fly with? Reason - my son is into guitars in a big way - he will be performing at the Albert Hall in March (so proud!!!!). He has four guitars and is also (always) looking for a Stratocaster or Les Paul.
Thanks

My DS spent all his $$$$ in the Guitar Centre (plus some of ours as well). He bought a Dean razorback(?) plus a hard case for around $350 (they did us a deal and basically we saved on the sales tax). The following day he decided he'd rather like a small amp and lead so he could play his new toy, so his dad took him back for another shop. A few days later we had to go back as the point for the amp lead had sprung loose and needed a special tool to fix it. With all our dealing with the Guitar Centre the staff were helpful and knowledgable.
BTW the same guitar is about the same in £s here as he paid in $.
On return we checked it in at the airport. Just put a couple of fragile stickers on it and it travelled fine.

We asked at check-in and, after a bit of discussion, were advised to take it on as hand luggage. The check-in staff reckoned that, if the staff at the gate thought it was too big to go in the overhead lockers, they'd take it to put in the hold with a fragile sticker on it, but wouldn't charge us extra for it.
We rushed Chris through at the gate and bunged the flight case complete with guitar into the overhead locker as soon as we got on the plane, then packed the rest of our hand luggage in front and on top of it. No-one said a word :D
We flew with My Travel, who are supposed to be notoriously strict with hold and cabin baggage allowances. Maybe it was something to do with the tins of soft drinks we gave to the check-in staff, as we couldn't take them airside?!!
