Right, having been without the internet since just after registering on this site I have spent literally hours today reading reviews etc for food, etc. We have only ever eaten at the fast food mickeyd type places, but this time we want to do a couple of 'special' sit downs with our 2 boys.
So,I'm thinking Cafe Mickey for the younger and the Wild West show for us all. I have read mixed reviews on both, and am hard pressed to find really up tp date reviews so would be so grateful for some advice. We have had a very tough time the last couple of years and really want the kids to enjoy this trip but are not loaded iykwim.

Me too I would be interested in any replies to this.

Also which character meal would you recommend e.g. breakfast etc. Ooops that sounds like to eat the characters :confused2 oh you know what I mean

IMHO you need to try these places for yourself.
Everyone has different views and what might be hell for one may be fantastic for the next person
But saying that....Cafe Mickeys was OK for breakfast....there is a hot buffet and about 6 different characters that visit your table. I would go again but maybe for teatime.
The Wild West Show....you get a bowl of chilli and cornbread then a plate(frying pan) with ribs chicken sausage and sweetcorn about 3 glasses of free beer or soda and apple pie for pudding :tounge: its filling and the entertainment passes an hour or two. If you get into the games etc... its quite fun DD enjoyed all the shouting and competition, DH enjoyed the free beer :erm:
I totally loved the atmosphere of The Blue Lagoon within the Pirates of the Caribbean ride...the food was nice, we got to see Jack Sparrow and the ride goes right past the seating area :)

I can recommend breakfast in the Castle as there are loads of characters and they all come round to your table for autographs/photos. Cafe Mickey was good for lunch too and it was "proper" food with the same really good character interaction and I can highly recommend the Buffalo Bills. The entertainment was great and so was the food - my cousin and I also appreciated the pre-show entertainment of the cute guy in unbelievably tight trousers doing various lasso tricks! ;) .

The Lucky Nugget was brilliant for Character greets.....and the buffet was delicious.....We went at teatime and its a set price, the theming is lovely, looks like an old saloon and they have a little band playing music.
Characters came around twice and DD got all their autographs plus a cuddle and was very happy

We had dinner at Cafe Mickey and all enjoyed it. The characters were really good and the food good too (although portion sizes weren't massive).

We also ate at the buffet in the Hotel New York (I can't remember the restaurant name) and that was really good too.

We had a character lunch at the Lucky Nugget Saloon in the park as well which was a bit dissapointing due to where our table was but the food was good.

I'm interested in reccommendations for restaurants too. I like the sound of the blue lagoon - is it expensive? We're on a budget, so would probably only have a couple of sit-down meals during the 5 days

We went in December and we did the Princess meal in Auberge de Centrillon, and the character buffet in Inventions restaurant in the Disneyland hotel. Both were very good but pricey. I think the princess meal cost about EUR140 for 2 adults and a child and the buffet at Inventions was a litte more. At the princess meal we saw Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel & Prince Eric, and at the buffet there were various characters including Goofy and Donald. The food on the buffet was exceptional - huge prawns, caviar, crab, beef, and you could eat as much as you like. I would recommend both.

Edited to add we also had dinner in the Rainforest Cafe which again was on the pricey side (around EUR85 for 3 of us including a bottle of wine) but the food was excellent. Some people don't like RFC but we love it and always visit in Orlando.

Walts Diner is lovely for a special meal. They have a nice kids menu as well.

We enjoyed the all you can eat buffet at Billy Bob's (on the top floor).

I have eaten at Cafe Mickey tons of times and have always liked it. I also recomend walts as a must as it is dedicated to Walt Disney and there is nothing simillar at WDW.

I can certainly recommend the character tea party at Plaza Gardens. At £9 per person its a bargain. We saw 9 characters the first time we went and 8 characters last time.

It is all you can eat and is mainly sweet treats, cakes, desserts. But they also have some savoury options like sausage rolls, pizza, ham, cheese, bread etc. You also get 1 cold drink and 1 hot drink each.
The restaurant is very similar to the Crystal palace at MK.
We have also booked the Buffalo Bills Wild West Show as i think my boys will really enjoy the evening. They have 2 shows per night at 6.30pm and 9.30pm. We were told that it is not open on Weds and Thurs but not sure if thats just during low season.

We are off on 11th Feb for 5 days!:spin:

We have also eaten at Cafe Mickeys and really enjoyed it there. The Hunters Grill at the Sequoia Lodge is also another good choice.

We tried Planet Hollywood but weren't impressed and wouldn't go back.

We are also considering the Blue Lagoon but will wait until we get there to view the current menu.:)

Thanks to everyone who has posted info. It's only 2 weeks aay now,and my 2 boys are bubbling over! I have had to make a chart to tick the days off for my youngest, who is on the autistic spectrum, otherwise he gets agitated as he has no concept of 'the future'-because I told him I couldn't buy a new tv as I have no money this morning (the tv was playing up and I thought it had 'died') he apparently got really upset at school today,as he thought we were no longer going-as we were broke! Bless!
A couple ofquestions,
When you make reservatios,do you have to pay a deposit, and are we too late now to make reservations for 8th-12th Feb?

Aww bless him.:o: I have a chart too for my boys, they enjoy ticking the days off until we go!:thumbs-up

You are not too late to book, you may find it more difficult to get reservations at the times you want on the weekend but it is still low season so i can't see a problem.

Call 0033 1 60 30 40 50 and you will be able to book which ever restaurants you want on this number. If you book Buffalo Bills you will need to pay in full when you call. But we haven't had to pay a deposit for anything else.

There has been a few problems with people not being able to book the Cafe Mickey breakfast and are being told to call back a few days before they go. So don't be surprised if they say that. Lunch and dinner there is being booked no problem.:thumbs-up

Which restaurants have you decided on?

Rainforest cafe and Planet Hollywood are quite good.

The fast food in the park is a bit hit-and-miss but OK for a quick snack.

Chef Mickey's for breakfast. When we went we had loads of characters and they spent absolutely ages at each table.

Leanne thanks for that-you are all mines of information, when I read the florida posts my eyes boggle as I don't even understand all the abreviations-there should be an abreviation list lol!

My boys really really want to do Buffalo Bills-I know the food reviews are mixed and I'm a veggie so should be interesting, but they love the idea of the show. I also fancy Cafe Mickey as I said before, and the one near the pirates of the caribean ride? I can't believe that this is our third trip, yet I have never been in 90% of the places talked about on tis site-and we have never yet (hangs head in shame!!!!!) gone into the studios as we keep running out of time!

Sue, did you book direct with DLP and are you staying on-site? If so then you can get kids go free at Buffalo Bills if they are under 12. We have booked it and both my boys are going free so its only costing £66 for the 4 of us.
Don't worry about being a veggie, i am veggie too. When you get to the Buffalo Bills show you can request a veggie meal and i hear that it is actually very good.:thumbs-up

The Blue Lagoon gets excellent reviews and it is such a lovely looking restaurant. We are going to see what the menu is like when we arrive and if it suits we will try and book for later on in the week.:thumbs-up

You must go in the Studios this trip. You can't miss the new Cars ride, Crush's coaster and of course Tower of Terror!! I can't wait to try them out.:spin::wave:

Yes Lianne we booked direct with Disney,as for on site- we are staying at Davey Crockett, does that count? One child is 12 but the youngest is 6. Have we misssed the boat though because we didn't book bills at the same time as accomodation?

Rylisal - it's a few years since we went to DLP now, but we ate at Walt's and found it a surprisingly nice restaurant. We went when one of the parades was on, which meant it was quiet, and also we could see the parade out of the window!

Wasn't fussed with the pizza place though (Buzz Lightyear I think?) where we had an indifferent lunch.

Hi Sue. Yes, Davy Crockett counts and you haven't missed the boat. We didn't book Buffalo Bills at the same time as our accomodation either. We booked ours a couple of weeks ago.:)

I have the brochure right in front of me. Kids under 12 will go free at Buffalo Bills when booking a package direct with DLP and staying at any of the hotels in the brochure. This does actually include some of the off-site hotels too. You need to be staying there between 6th Jan-19th March.

You will need to call 0033 1 60 30 40 50. There is a direct number for the show but i don't have it to hand at the moment. Just tell them you want to book the show and they will put you through.

They will give you the option of a 6.30pm or a 9.30pm show. They will also tell you it is not available on Weds and Thurs as the show doesn't run on those days at least during Feb. Confirm with the person you speak to that your 6 year old will go free. The adult price will be £33 each and the price for your 12 year old will be £22.
They will ask you to pay in full when you book. They should also tell you that your Disneyland Paris confirmation number will be the same for Buffalo Bills. We received a modified email a couple of days after booking showing the show added.
I'm not sure if you booked via the internet or phone, this may affect whether you get the email.

Hope that helps.:)

Leanne we couldn't book on this number and get the child free. The guy was very helpful, but has given me a number to ring tomorrow to book hopefully with the 15% discount (he wasn't sure we could have this as we didn't book at the same tie-admitted he just didn't know!) and free child place, but did say he had plenty of availability and no need to panic,so hopefully will get it done tomorrow-will be nice to have a few things booked,we normally just play it by ear and have obviously missed loads in the past!

Thanks for letting me know Sue.:confused2 We didnt book when the 15% discount was on but i don't see why you can't have the child free place for the show. Did your 6 year old go free on your hotel and ticket package? If the answer is yes then you can absolutely have the free child place. You do not need to book Buffalo Bills at the same time as your hotel, you are able to add it to your booking.

Here is the direct number for Buffalo Bills, 0033 1 60 45 71 00. This is who we were put through to and they booked the show with free child places no problem.

Hope you get a result.:thumbs-up

I am Essex too Lianne-Romford! Yes Adam was 'free' so hopefully no probs. I do think the pricing is so confusing with different info on the site and in brochure-they did say when we booked there have been lots of complints re the website and they are relaunching it 'when I don't know.'

Hi, we were at DLP Jan 2007 and ate at Cafe Mickey for Dinner one night and then breakfast on the last morning. Both were very enjoyable but the dinner was fantastic. It was our first character meal and the kids just loved it. The food was good but not the hotest but fine. We had read mixed reviews and were not sure ourselves beforehand however we thought it was well worth the money to see the kids have such a fantastic time.

Bear in mind it will be very busy and noisy but you should enjoy it. We found the service was very good.

Have a great time.

Well after lots of 'we don't take that card' (well we actually booked the holiday on it!) we have our booking Lianne. Unfortunately,Matt at 12 is priced as an adult,so we paid £99,but at least we know exactly what we are paying for that meal, and it's paid before we go!
We haven't tried to book the other 2 yet-still trying to work out when to book for,as we have never had any sort of itinary before-no matter how loose- we just tun up and play it by ear,but having read all the posts on here I think it is obvious you get far more out it if you make some plans.
Fancy you being in Romford too!

I would recommend the Rainforest Cafe as a good place for dinner too

The portions are huge and can easily be shared and the children's menu had a nice list of options.

Annette's is fun because of the music and rollerskating waitresses/waiters but I don't rate the food as highly.

We really loved ADC - Princess meal but our daughter is Princess mad and it meant no queueing to meet them.

Cafe Mickey and Plaza Gardens are great places for Characters. As is Inventions in the DLH which is a buffet.

A good tip for days you are eating a big meal out at night is to just grab some baguettes from the train station for lunch. They do a meal deal with a baguette , drink and pastry/crisps for much less than the fast food in the park (It's also tastier).

If you eat in King Ludwigs I'm sure they give you a discount off a future meal there.

I wouldn't worry about being too planned . It's a quiet time of year and apart from the really new rides (Crushes coaster and TOT) and the slow loaders - Autopia/Dumbo you should manage the parks easily in a few days.

The Steakhouse is a very adulty place but the food is really nice. They had lots of table settings out -glasses and plates everywhere and I was terrified my 3 year old was going to knock down one and start a domino effect.
