Hi, does anyone know whether Publix is open 24 hours a day? We know that Wal-Mart is, but have found Publix to be a bit better (and it's closer to our villa!) :thumbs-up

Most of them close at 10pm. If you go to their website and use the store locator you can find out the exact hours.

Publix is my choice...and I've lived here for 30+ years. My Mom has never shopped anywhere else. She's tried the others but always ends up back at Publix.

Thanks for the info! Looks like it's 7am to 11pm at the one nearest us, so it'll be breakfast first on that first morning (I think there's a Perkins nearby which is 24 hour), then Publix at opening time, before getting to MK in time for rope-drop! :thumbs-up

Publix is our favourite too. There bakery section is wonderful. They may be a bit more expensive than Walmart, but they are a lot more up-market too! We always stay in a villa and there are two Publix nearby. One of them does subs there (like Subway) and they were really delicious. I could eat one now!! ;-)

Another vote for Publix. I think there food is far superior to Walmart but its Walmart for everything else.

Must look out for Publix, when you have Walmart at the gate of your villa community its hard to make yourself shop elsewhere for food. (especially on the 27)

Publix is definitely nicer for food than Walmart. Sunday hours are slightly shorter. I think they close an hour earlier so don't get caught out.

There are quite a few Publix's on the 27 and one on the 192 near the Jcn with the 27.

Thanks, that would be why we didnt see them, we always used the I4 then the 27 south to Southern Dunes, never went north of the I4 junction. Will do so next visit though.

We LOVE Publix! Wouldn't dream of doing food shopping at Walmart, it's just not the same standard. Their keylime pie is to die for too.

I love Publix too, I now have all my "usuals" that I always get when I'm there... and I know exactly which aisle they're in. And whenever I think about Publix I always remember a member of staff in the one on Vineland Avenue called Marina who always says "come back and see us" as you leave. I also love how they pack all your shopping for you (properly), even if they do use far too many poly bags.

I am a Publix addict!

Totally agree re Publix - we stayed at Silver Creek last year and although Walmart was closer and we did get some bits and peices there on our first day generally we shopped at the Publix close to Highland Reserve or the one on 192 close to 27 junction.

The staff are much friendlier in Publix, I couldn't get over the fact that someone offered to take my trolley to the car and pack the car!!

I will admit to liking the lemon sponge they sell in Walmart though!! :)

:thumb: for Publix subs too

I would link Publix to our Sainsburys or Tesco and Wal*Mart to Asda for style and quality of food. I shop at various supermarkets depending on how much I want to spend (Wal*Mart, I always overspend because of the size and choice of non food goods) and if i'm looking for something special from the deli I choose Publix.

I also shop at Winn Dixie (even got a loyalty card which tells me over the last 4 years i've made $472 worth of savings) which is a bit like admitting to shop at Aldi or Netto !!. and I used to use Albertsons a lot as it was less commercial and more like your friendly local store but on the last 2 visits there have been none near the villa.

DW thinks I should get a 14 day pass for the supermarkets as I seem to enjoy them as much as the parks !!!!!!!!!!!!

We lived in North Carolina 10 years ago, I'll never forget shopping for the first time with a newborn baby in Harris Teeter (Sainsburys-like supermarket) and it was pouring with rain. The trolley man took it off me and told me to put the baby in the car and he would load up the boot. He was so kind and I was so grateful I drove off in tears!
