View Full Version : New york advice
I have managed to finds return flight for £1,140. 2 adults and 2 children. but I can't find a good hotel.. plus the price is really scary.
2 weeks in november is working out at about £3,000. nearly double my flights cost...
Any help would be great..
Two weeks is a long time to spend in New York, could you go for a shorter time or have you already booked the flights?
We're staying at the Affinia Dumont, which is an all-suite hotel, so you get a kitchen, which is great if you have kids. go to affinia.com for prices.
Hope that helps a little. :D

Sorry no help on the hotel I'm afraid, but I seem to remember there being a few posts on NYC hotels, so try a search. Rockerfeller apartments seems to ring a bell with me for some reason, maybe they were good value.
The only other thing I would say is eating out in New York is pretty pricey. If you have only ever been to Orlando then you may be surprised at the prices, just another thing to factor in to your budget. Maybe you could consider spending a little less time there to take the pressure off the old wallet.

Hi if u are staying 2 weeks u could stay outside Manhattan that will lower your cost Sheraton Suites on the Hudson maybe an option, but to be honest u maybe better seeing if u can rent an apartment or similar
Have a look at the Cosmopolitan Hotel, it has good reviews on tripadvisor. I am looking to stay here when we go next year. We are hoping to go in October, the rates for this year are around £120 per night.

The New York hotel prices are pretty scary. I searched for ages to find something decent for less than £150 inclusive of taxes. I've booked Hampton Inn just north of Times Square as the price includes a cooked breakfast and internet access and I got and AAA rate on it. However this is fully cancellable up until 24hrs before arrival and I'm still hopeful of getting a late deal.

Apartment rental would be a cheaper alternative. DD and her partner stayed in an apartment in Manhattan and it cost about £100 a night and was very nice. Try googling some search terms. Alternatively you could consider staying in Brooklyn whic is very nice and has good transport links.

The appartment itself was basic but fine nice new bathroom and comfy bed would deff stay there again. whilst on the subject i would recomend top of the rock at the rockafella great views with no bars just few min walk away.

cool! It's such a great place have a fantastic trip!
2 weeks is a long time in NYC ... is there any other place in the northeast you would like to see? Cape Cod, Atlantic City, Wash DC, Maine, Boston, Vermont, Niagara Falls, Poconos?

I also think 2 weeks is a long time in NYC. I would say 5 nights is about perfect, then you have 6 days. At the end of your 6 days you will have loved every min but be ready for home.
Thanks everyone, I will have a look at some of the places listed.
I might stay for a few days and then I can do a twin break maybe.
Thanks again....

I will probably take peoples advice to only stay for a few days then choose somewhere else. see more places, will cost the same as you all say new york is'nt cheap..
When we visited we stayed a week and frankly there was no way I could have stood the pace any longer than that! By the end of the week I was more than ready to come home, I think combining a week with somewhere 'Upstate' sounds lovely. My friend visited Cape Cod/Martha's Vineyard last year and said it was just beautiful.

I have mentioned a few times on the boaurd about the Murray Hill suites East they are really good if you have children , close to everything and reasonable.
Have you tried Priceline? that is a good way to go and you get really good savings.
Not sure what time you are going in November but I do know that everything is more expensive the week the Marathon is on.
Hope you get sorted.

Ooh, I could easily do 2 weeks in NYC, but then I'm a musicals geek. I saw a show most nights we were there. So nice being 5 mins walk from Times Square!
We ate pretty cheaply actually, certainly compared with restaurant prices in the UK. John's Pizza (near Phantom) is brilliant, and Katz's Deli (where they filmed THAT scene in 'When Harry Met Sally') was fun. We also did a Foods of New York walking tour round the Village.
