Hi all
My hubby has a heights fobia, but thinks he'll be fine with the simulation part of Soarin' ... but can anyone tell me how far you actually are off the ground?
Thanks!
Lesley
If you're on the front row, you're not very high up at all. Might be worth requesting that to be safe.
you may only be a few inches from the ground it depends which row you are on as they all go at different heights im sure if you told a cast member though they would accomodate you and put you on the bottom row! :spin:

We were about third row back when we went on it, and your feet are only about 2ft from the ground.

I believe there is an area at the front for wheelchair guests etc which ovbiously does not leave the ground
it may be that they would allow you to position yourself there

Its not just the physical height - its also the fact you feel like you flying. To be honest I didnt like the sensation that much, I dont mind heights but not a big fan of them.
If he gets really paniced by heights, I wouldnt risk it

hi i have a phobia of heights and the first time i went on it i was on row one and it was so high and not nice! this put me off riding it again but the next year i went i plucked up courage to ride it again and was on row three and this wasnt as bad i would suggest you ask if you can go in rows three or four its a great ride though!
I hate heights and flying, but I kept reminding myself that we werent really flying and it seemed to work, I really enjoyed the ride and wanted to go on again but the queue was too long.

I don't like heights veyr much but I really enjoyed Soaring, I've been in the front (top) row and also in the back row. In the back row now only are you quite low but there are also feet dangling which serve as a reminder that this is not real, not such a great effect but possibly helpful if you are scared.
The people at the far left of the shot are in the front row - they'll only rise a foot or two. The people in the rows behind will be lifted above the rows in front, so far higher from the ground.
All that said, you're watching a bloomin' big screen - you won't be looking down and unlikely to be aware of your actual physical position...

I thought it worked the other way, but I honestly can't remember - I just know one time we had feet and the other time we didn't

Where is this ride ? which park is it in? and do they have wheelchair transfer facility - able to do short walk from w/c to ride seats.
EPCOT.
Another site says:
Lastly, on the negative front, guests who use wheelchairs and cannot transfer to a ride vehicle seat will not be able to experience this attraction, as there is no way to accommodate a wheelchair on the ride vehicles. disAbled access to the attraction, however, is good, with wide, gently sloping ramps throughout the queue area, and ample room to maneuver a wheelchair inside the ride theater. You just have to be able to get into the theater seats once you're inside.

we believe it to be the other way round too, the first row raises highest first then second row and so on, i only know this by being terrified the first time i went on it it does go quite high! :tounge:

I've been on it twice, and each time was on the front row. We were lifted to the highest point, I didn't look but my son told me afterwards and I definitely never saw any feet.
I don't like heights either but was OK, I just shut my eyes for the lift off and from then on I was fine and wasn't aware of how high we were.

Went on a few weeks ago and the ride is fantastic - sometimes I just shut my eyes though and reminded myself we weren't actually up that high. We had fastpasses but as I have slight walking/standing difficulties we had a Guest Assistance Pass and they let us in the fast pass entrance before our time. The full line was about 90 minutes long and, as we came out there were lines waiting simply to get a fastpass for the evening. As we hadn't used our fastpasses we gave them away to people in the fastpass line and made someone's day when they found they could go straight on.

If you don't like heights, don't go on this ride. You might not physically be up that high but perception will mkae you feel otherwise... I don't like heights, wouldn't say I have a huge fear, just don't like them and it made me feel a little uneasy so for someone with a genuine fear I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

I hate heights and the first time I did it I was so glad to get off (I closed my eyes for some of it) so the next time I went on I fastened the childs safety belt around me and I have had no problems since as I feel more secure. I think the problem with me is that I have a real fear of falling, I don't get dizzy like some people so depending how bad the fear is should depend on whether someone should ride this or not.

TBH, it's that dark in the theatre, you'll not realise how high you are anyway!

I am sure it is something like 40 feet up for the first row, 30 feet for the second and 20 for the third row. The screen is over 80 feet tall so you have to be fairly high to get the full effect.
Have to say in all the times I have ridden I have never really thought about the height (even though I am not keen on heights). I spend my whole time staring at the screen.
I can't wait until I am riding it again - and hopefully Disney are progressing well with the replacement film which means we can fly over a different part of the World.

I'm not that good with glass lifts and heights and although I am glad I done it I couldn't go back on it. my poor dad who is 75 and loved it :d: had no flesh left on his hand by the time it had finished I held him that tight. maybe it was the fact that your feet tangled. I prefer the roller coaster where your feet are onthe ground

I am terrified of heights.......I cry the whole way to USA on the plane, I cant go in glass lifts and hate bridges, and I cant go on rollercoasters but I was absolutely fine on this and it was my favourite ride!! :) Its dark and you cant see how high you are - definitely try it! xx
