What's it like? Have just booked an apartment & flights for a week at the end of August. Don't usually do this without tons of research on the area but we know someone who has an apartment there and we've rented it from them at a good rate. Looks like a small quiet resort which is what we like. If anyone can tell me anything about the area and things to do that would be great.

Thanks

Hi

We went there two years ago, great small resort, beach ok but worth going to coves either side, good reastaurants with lots of variety. BUT really quant. Boat trip good from the beach. FAB supermarket, intermarche, on the outskirts back towards motorway allmost as big as French version, sell great wine and fish.

there is a web cam in the ice cream shop where you can see whats going on, cant remember the web site but try googlin it. We looked our self up on it when we got back by remembering the time we were there as they save it for a week or two.

Further a field we liked Slide and Splash if you are into that kind of thing

We loved Portugal, we went with my parents who said that it was like Spain used to be! Hence we are returning May this year.

I stayed in a villa near Monte Carvoeiro in 1994 and 1996, I expect it's changed a bit since then! I remember vaguely going on a boat trip from Portimao but the rest of the time we lazed by the pool and drank wine! :cool2:

Hi

We stayed in a villa in Carvoeiro 2 years ago and agree with surferqueen, it's a small, quaint resort. Some nice restaurants looking out over the town square. Go to www.carvoeiro.com for the webcam.

Hi,

Yes, I've been to Portugal several times and 3 times to Carvoeiro - the last time being 2006. Carvoeiro itself is quite small and we were there towards the end of September so it wasn't too busy (not sure what it's like in school holidays). Anyway, it's easy enough to drive around and get to other resorts and beaches. I really like it - hope you do too!

We spent a week there in a private villa a couple of years ago, nice quiet little village, we enjoyed it :)
Some lovely beaches nearby & a great icecream shop near the town beach.

Thanks everyone it sounds right up our street - I think we've made a good choice! We also love Nerja in Spain and I'm hoping that Carvoeiro has the same feel.
