I had someone in this morning to check my internet :(
he told me that tiscali is running slow  he went onto this web sit to check http://www.speedtest.net/ if you click onto the gold triangle it tells what speed you get, im only getting 521 and it should be between 4000 / 5000 (8GB)
don't know if i need to change servers ?

Ali, you can't change servers, it could be many things slowing the line down.

If you log into your netgear router http://192.168.0.1 put in the username and password, defaults are admin and password (password should not be the default), scroll down and click on show statistics this will show the speed of your connection to the BT exchange

downstream is the download speed and mine is 5376 kbps or 5.4 meg which is as fast as I can get.

If it still seems to be running slow could be a low network connection in your house (reboot everyting) or at the Tiscali end. I'm on tiscali and it's OK here.

using your link I got 3716 down and 374 up. When you do the test make sure email programme etc is off, if you are running anything that is accessing the net bar the test it will give false results

I've been reading reports that Tiscali have been having problems over the last few days with slow network and are throttling users back heavily during peak times.

I escaped their clutches by migrating away from Pipex (who Tiscali took over last year) before they put me onto the Tiscali network.

I'm also with Tiscali and haven't really noticed a problem (hope I'm not speaking too soon!!)

Just checked speed etc and mine was download 1Mb and upload .24Mb

What does this mean? :erm:

when you upgrade there is a period of 1 or 2 weeks I think where speeds will vary as they test the line and set it up for optimum speed - hopefully it will improve

we all signed up to a contention ratio of 50:1 which means they can make you share the line with 49 other users which would be a reduction to dial up speed, so at peak times things will slow down. Theoretically all 50 should never be down/uploading at the same time.
