We put a request in for a Big Apple Greeter in New York a few weeks ago, for whilst we were there in Feb. It had been recommended many times as being fantastic. I put the request in but didnt hold much hope really as they can only do so many. Guess what, !! just had a phone call from New York from a lovely lady who informed me that we had been allocated a Big Apple Greeter for the very date and time we requested. WOW WOW WOW. The lady on the phone was lovely, telling me our chaps name and giving me his home and mobile numbers and that he would meet us in The WESTIN, our hotel.

So thankyou if any of you recommended this service to me, we are really made up.

If anyone isnt sure what a Apple Greeter is, well its volunteers, native new yorkers who take you on a 3 - 5 hour trip all on public transport and show you the real NY. You can request certain areas but we have asked for greeters choice. Cant wait.

This service is Free and there is a strictly NO TIPPING POLICY. They do have a facility to donate online so i will be doing that.

Brill, you will have a fantastic experience, we had our Greeter in November his name was Arnold, he was so good I asked him to show me his New York and he did, you can ask for certain areas if you want to.
Arnold would not even have a cup of coffee off us, and we were with him for seven fabulous hours!!
Enjoy, need anybody to carry your bags?!!

Wow, i've never heard of this before, but it sounds absolutely amazing! I'm hoping to go to NY in 2009 for 3 months on my elective to practice medicine as part of the final year of my course. Might look into this for when I get there. Have a wonderful time!
