Loads, its been ten years since I went, but the must do's are
Ocean Park and the cable car, fantastic views of the South China seas
Lantau Island and the biggest Buddha.
Aberdeen and see how all the boat people live, it is a village in its self, fascinating!!
Star ferry and see the skyline close up [it costs buttons!]
The Stanley market for all you fake Guggi's and Rolex's [ can you tell the difference?? no!]
Train to the New Territories, and the then border with China.
The park at Wan Chi, by the ex govenors house, you can see people from 70 upward doing Tai Chi at four in the morning!!
Victoria peak for fantastic views.
Ride the trams and underground,
I can feel another holiday coming on!! :pgig: :pgig:
Enjoy, it is a fabulous place, and have a fantasic Anniversary, we spent our
30th in India!

It's only one or two subway stops from Kowloon to HK Island, we stayed on the Kowloon side at the Penisula, the subway stop was right outside, or you can catch the ferry over.
Definately check out Victoria Peak, and if you have time, visit one of the beaches, they are great, i was surprised!

Thanks everyone for their tips,I cant wait im soooo excited
we are off to Hong Kong in may
when I go to Florida I get a idea of prices to expect from the likes of Wal-Mart/JC penny/Circuit City Etc. is there a equivalent sort of site giving Hong Kong prices ?
is it relatively easy to pop across the border into China - do you have to pay £loads for a visa or something ?
Thanks

Hong Kong is part of China so wouldn't think you needed a visa at all.
Hong Kong is part of China so wouldn't think you needed a visa at all.
Couple of years since I've been, but you definately needed a visa then.
Pretty easy to get one though, most of the tourist hotels (any class) have travel agents within them and they can get the visa sorted out for you within a day (unless a Sunday).
It's cheaper to go and get the visa yourself though and once you've done it pretty straightforward. Visa office was behind the ? (Sheraton I think) on Kowloon, next door to TGI Fridays (upstairs).
If you are getting a visa be sure and take a couple of spare passport photos with you, they'll need them also.
Cheers
Thanks - I would have never thought of or remembered the passoprt photos.

You're right, i wouldn't have thought you'd need one considering they are now part of China, but you do.. found this interesting info on the web:

Nathan Road office is the one I was trying to remember (next door to TGI's I'm pretty sure).
Think reason that there is a restriction between HK and China is to try and officially limit the influx into HK. Similar situation I think for Macau, both have SAR status.
BTW, ferry trip from HK to Macau can be quite an interesting wee trip and a lot of things in Macau to see and do also (including the gambling...).

We are going to HK at the end of Mat for 2 weeks, staying at the Harbour plaza hotel in Hung Hom on the harbourfront.
We will be celebrating my husbands 50th birthday and our 2 daughters and their fallas are coming with us.
We used to live in Hong Kong and our eldest daughter was born there.
My tips would be, visit the peak using the peak tram, there is a great restaurant at the top with fabulous views and great food.
Try a dim sum for breakfast,
take plenty of spends as it is a shoppers paradise, Watch the harbour light show at 8pm I believe the english commentary is on a Monday wednesday and friday.
Take a junk ride around the harbour.
visit repulse bay (lovely beach) ad Stanley market.
Have fun it's unlike anywhere else in the world! :d:
We are off to Hong Kong in October to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, also staying at the harbour plaza!! We lived there for a few years back in the early 80's. Celebrated our first anniversary there as well and eldest dd was conceived there. I always tell her she has "made in Hong Kong" stamped on her bum lol.Am so excited as we have been looking forward to this from the day we left!!

I stayed at the Harbour Plaza Hung Hom when I went - the hotel is FANTASTIC you will love it. We were lucky enough to be upgraded for one night to part of the presidential suite - floor to ceiling windows overlooking the harbour.
The bar and main restaurant has the same fantastic views.
One of our favourite days was a trip to Chueng Chau by hydrofoil - it is a tiny island off the coast hong kong.We had the best and cheapest meal of our stay in one of the many restaurants there.
HK Disney is quite an experience - you have to try Mickey noodles!
My best tip is to always hand over money and credit cards with two hands - it shows respect and people really appreciate it.
Have a great time (sooo jealous)
