Hi Folks
We are wanting to purchase a lap top when in florida. Are they compatible to use over here and are there any issues using them here? What can we expect to pay for a half decent one. Any advice welcome.
Thanks.

Hi
We were out in August and my son bought homself a Apple laptop we used the Apple store in the Florida Mallthey were really helpful and gave us all the info we needed. We did go to Wal mart and purchase an adaptor for the plug it was only $10 just so he could use it as soon as he got home. No problem going through customs either they just passed it through the x ray machine.
Hope this helps

Hi,
I have never done seen or bought one from US, but DH has come across
a few Laptops purchased overseas & the keyboard might be a different layout & the £ sign might be missing. Just somthing to lookout for.
My DH bought me one in the US for Christmas. You just change it to UK region rather than US. The layout is then exactly the same as a UK keyboard, although some of the keys will read slightly differently, ie number 3 types as a £ sign but shows # on the actual key.
Its no problem. Insead of the US lead (will be handy when we take laptop to US) we use the lead you get with a radio/cd player.
He got it from Office Depot in Texas.

I ordered my Macbook from America and they gave me a suitable UK Adapter (free) and it was relativly hassle free, but i got it at a USA price. Best of all world really. You could maybe look into that option?
Jack
I see them starting at $500 - $1200.

They do sell laptops in Walmart but their range is very limited and they tend to be the lower spec ones. BestBuy generally have a good range with some bargain prices.

Thanks for replies so far. Just another question - can you play UK DVD's in the USA ones??

It doesn't matter whether the laptop is from the UK or USA. Every computer DVD drive is locked to a specific region which can be changed but only a certain number of times (4 or 5 I think), then it's locked to that region's DVDs. So, if you buy a laptop set originally set at Region 1 (US), you can change it to Region 2 to play UK disks. There is also software you can search for that will "bypass" or disable the region lock.
