I just booked another trip to Amsterdam for me and DS2 - Dannyboy(8) and I was wondering about taking a day out to the Efteling theme park.
But a) I don't know where it is and
b) How to get there
:pgig: :pgig: :pgig:
Has anyone been there and is it viable for a day trip from the Dam???
I found a quirky hotel to stay in as well Lloyd Hotel (http://www.expedia.co.uk/pub/agent.dll/qscr=dspv/nojs=1/htid=1146000) Apparently it used to be a prison!!!
We went there many years ago (1996). It was a 2 night ferry thing though. I think it is near to Einhoven (I only remember as I was meeting a friend who lived there and she'd been to see Newcastle v PSV Einhoven (SP) playing in a football cup thing). Idon't even remember where the ferry docked, but it was a very straighforward journey from there by train, so it should be quite easy to get to if you are near a main line railway station.
Sorry I have not helped you much at all, but just wanted to say it was a lovely day out in the park. My kids then were 11 and 9 and really enjoyed the day. No doubt there will have been loads of changes to the rides etc but there was huge choice of rides for all ages and an enchated forest thing to walk through. It's ot Disney but well worth a trip if you can do it.
It would be so cool to stay in an ex prison :)
I just googled it and there are some great links and sites to look at. I was interested to read it opened in 1952 and Walt Disney studied it before begining his plans for Disneyland.

Hi,
We've been twice, my kids love it and want to go back. It is near Eindhoven. We had our own car with us, so we drove. As we were staying near the German border we did get the train to Amsterdam for the day (we thought it was too far to drive). It was quite straightforward as there is a massive train station in Amesterdam. Perhaps you could get the train from Amsterdam to Eindhoven.
My children really liked the talking rubbish bins and a ride called Villa Volta (not to be missed).
Definitely go if you can.
Mandy.

If you head to Wassenaar / Duinrells there is great theme park / campsite that we have stayed at a couple of times via Sun Holidays
its probably a 30 - 40 minute drive from Amsterdam
its not the biggest place in the world but has some fun rides and also a good indoor water park you can make full use of

its also only maybe 15 minute drive from the famous model village (whose name escapes me) you could probably take both in in the same day

I'd be very interested to hear of your experiences with the hotel, online it looks very quirky and has mixed Tripadvisor reports (for what they are worth!)

That's a blast from the past - I went there in 1987!!

We always head there when in Belgium or Netherlands. It is just outside Tilburg. Whenever we have been the queues have been quite small and there are quite a few big rides. Villa Volta is great, so is the Fairy Ride. It has a good mix of rides with things to look at, big rides and rides for all ages of kids. It has a fairy tale section where you walk through different tales, told in a mixture of English and Dutch. It is well done and the gardens are beautiful.
We really enjoy going!!
