View Full Version : Monitor - widescreen v. standard
I think I will buy a new flatscreen monitor in the next month or two.
We really only use the computer for internetting. So what are the pros and cons of widescreen and standard for our use?

Does "internetting" include playing games, or just purely for web browsing and email?
For *pure* internet use, probably a standard monitor is marginally better as you can get more height for your pages of text - and an awful lot of web pages, even in this day and age, lock you into a 1024 width layout anyway to give them better control of the page layout.
That said, my own preference would be for something like a 20"-22" widescreen, which gives the same vertical height as a standard 17" monitor (which tend to be 1280x1024) but lots of exta width (a 22" widescreen will probably be 1680x1050) so you can put pages side by side for example.
