Stu has been fitted for a new foam carve seating system and today was supossed to be the day after 4 months and 3 intrim fittings. Got to the clinic and I have to say Stu and I were running a little late as Stu has had a nasty chest infection for the past 10 days and I have started with it over the weekend. Only to find our local mobility centre in a bid to save £50. had forgotten to order a part that fits the seating system onto his new set of wheels!!!! :(

The OT we had today is our total favorite but she has been pushed to one side all the way through this new process, but was suddenly told at 5pm on Friday she was due at school today at 9.15am.
When we rang her head OT to find out what had gone wrong she said 'I don't understand why everyone is stressing!!!!!!' When I feel better I will be sending her, and her boss, a letter exlpaining why Stu and I were stressing'

Hopefully we will now have our new seating system within the next 3 weeks.

So please keep your fingers crossed for Stu and the new bit arriving sooner rather than later.

The most upsetting thing is today sat in his new seat Stu just snuggled down and had a snooze when we put him back into his old chair (matrix) he started to cough and splutter and dropped his Sats from 98 down to 89/91.
Needless to say he spent very little time in his chair today and lots of time on his bed or in his comfy chair.

Off for a hot bath and a early night and to compose my letter in my head!!!

That seems such a long time to wait for a foam karve. The longest dd waits from carving to getting the chair is 8 weeks.
Although we wait around 6 to 12 months on the waiting list to get the appointment to have it carved.
Hope Stu gets his chair soon and he is feeling better.
We are of to foam karve clinic on thursday.

Forgive me for asking, but what is this seat your'e talking about, ds has been given the matrix, but he doesnt like it as he says it makes him sweat too much.
Would this be any different??

You have my sympathy, seating/wheelchair clinincs are so frustrating. How hard can it be to get all the bits together in the same place at the agreed time!?!

Hope you and Stu are both feeling better soon.

A foam carvr seat is just that. The guy from the compamy takes a soft mould of your shape using a big bean bag and then sucking out all the air until they have a firm shape then he uses his computer to plot the shape.

I don't think it would help with a over heating problem as we are having special cover made with coolmax and sweat wicking properties in them to over come this.

Some sleep systems also cause overheating and we are using the same matierial they use on their sheets to try on the seat cover for Stu.

I am feeling a little better today, its just so frustrating to get there with all our hopes built up and for him to be so very comfortable in the seat to have to put him back into his matrix see his colour drop and know how dissappointed he must feel :(

Will ring them tomorrow to see if they have a new delivery date

I hope they have his special seat sorted for him very soon. It seems like such a small thing for someone to sort for him, yet it still didn't go to plan.

I hope you are feeling better after a soak. Ready to fight on.

DD had her fitting yesterday. Long appointment (2 hours). She should have it in a month. I did ask why some are quicker than others and they said dd does not need a new frame and it is a quicker turn around. Also diffrent county and clinic.

One of the guys I look after has been waiting six weeks just to get his footplates sorted out! It beggars belief really.

Just to say got a phone call this morning at 10am to say they had had a cancellation on a clinic today and had all the bits needed for Stus chair could we be with them for 1.30pm!!!

Rang school to make sure Stu wasn't already out on life skill then jumped in the van and headed off down the A38 to collect him as todays clinic was in Exeter.

After 3 hours of final fittings :omg: we now have the foam carve seat. It is still a little work in progress to get the lap strap and harness right and the foot box needs twice as much padding and a matching cover, but that is just cosmatics!

I think the harness will take longer as this has aways been a sticking piont.

On the plus side he looks so comfy, his head is pointing forward not looking up to the sky!! and in the van travelling back to school he could actually see out of the windows and all that was going on around him!.

Tomorrow he is off the The Pavillions in Plymouth ice skating which he is really looking forward to. So fingers crossed all will go well.

Thank you every body for all your comments it has helped keep us going

I've only just seen this thread, what a terrible time you and Stu have both had. I'm so glad things are finally better for Stu now and he can actually see the world from your van.

Wish him Good Luck for skating from me.

I will try to post a photo over the weekend of Stu in his new chair. So far so good and he does seem happier in it. Unfortunatley he didn't make ice skating today as he had a big seizure just before they were due to leave which knocked him out for the rest of the day :( totally sods law!!!

Next week they are due to go to the races at Exeter or Newton Abbott which he is really looking forward to so fingers crossed he will make that!!

Hi Michelle
Just repied to your other thread.

Stus chair does deem to have plenty of growing space at the moment. He looks happy sat in it in just a T shirt , but also looks OK in his fleece. I don't think we would ever be able to go back to wearing a big winter coat but to be honest if the weather is that cold it needs to be an emergency for us to go out.

We did brave the wind and rain this morning as Stu had some shoes made at the local cobblers and his old one really needed replacing. So he set out with his polo neck top on as well as a micro fleece, hat and gloves and a fleece blanket on and his waterproof over the top he was as snug as a bug although I need to get a bigger water proof as this one now covers him but as the new chair is much longer I can't tie it on to the frame so we had 1 or 2 Mary Poppins moments much to Stus delight :)

Fingers crossed for a quick resolution to your daughters chair, but might it mean a whole new casting? and did they take away her old chair? could you ask for it back in the intrim or was it way too small?

Sorry more questions than answers

Karen
