I am comfortable with computers but I am looking to buy a new laptop for the swimming team where I am team manager.

I have found 2 good deals on the Dell website, one is a Vostro 1000 with an AMD Turion 64 x2 TL58 (1.9GHz) processor and the other is a Vostro 1500 with either an Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz) processor.

The AMD laptop is cheaper by £25 and is identical apart from the processor and on the surface appears that it should be faster. Only downside I can see is it is limited to 2GB of RAM and this is what it comes with so it couldn't be upgraded.

I have only ever had Intel processors and I was looking for some reassurance from anyone who has an AMD laptop that they are fine with Vista.

Thanks,
Allan

AMD will be fine with vista and 2GB is what you need to run it at a decent pace. I bought a Dell laptop about 18 months ago and put Vista on it after upgrading to 2GB RAM and for general use i.e. surfing, MS Office etc it is fine.

I bought my first AMD powered laptop last month (HP with Turion 64x2 TL58 @1.9). It's running Vista with 2gb RAM and is really fast. Got the usual Vista compatibility issues but that apart it's great.

DS dropped his Dell laptop just before Christmas - we have only ever had Intel before but the Insurance company replaced it with AMD Turion Dual Core.

At first we were going to complain and get them to replace it but DS has found it to be much faster - in fact he is over the moon with the replacement!

i like the amd chips, but for lappys intel core 2 duos are less power consuming and run much cooler im told having never had an amd powered lappy, i have a core 2 duo tosh at the mo running vista business ed and 1.5gb ram and it runs sweet as a nut :D
