Hi

Mammoth Lake is very nice a little like Austria, Death Valley Stove Pipe Wells or Furnace Creek.

We have stopped a couple of times at a place called Lone Pine. We have then drove through Death Valley and Furnace Creek which by the way is very hot :thumbs-up

It's not very big Wendy, just one long street. There are a few hotels, not many. I have never stayed in Mammoth Lakes that might be a bit bigger town with more of a selection. You will enjoy the drive out of Yosemite, down the Tioga Pass :omg: it's stunning ;)

There is a very good forum for planning any American road trips. Take a look at www.roadtripamerica.com

There is loads of information about San Fran to Vegas and the places in between.

I'm not sure when you're going but don't forget the Tioga Pass is closed from around October to March....sometimes even earlier or later!

Just a word of warning!

We stayed at Lone Pine as well! We stayed at the Best Western. Not much there but its a good half-way point.

We stayed at Bishop and I would recommend you avoid this place if possible as it still lives in the memory as one of the only places in the US where we had bad service. However there was a great bakery serving breakfast.

Stovepipe Wells is an incredible place to stay - go out into the desert and watch the Sunset and Sunrise.
