hi all

we go 2nd april and its my dd's bday whilst there on 7/4 - she desperately wants a pink nintedno ds for her bday - its seems at the moment almost everywhere is out of stock.
Do you think its worth waiting til we are there and buying one ? assuming they have them of course !
any advice appreciated
thanks

My dh bought me one while we were there in december. the only extra we needed to buy was a uk charger , i had assumed just a convertor plug would work with the us charging unit but we needed new charger. otherwise it has been great! and soooo much cheaper!

We too are going on 2nd April, and It's my DS's birthday whilst were there.

We had planned on getting him a DS whilst out there but I've read a few threads recently saying that they are sold out everywhere.

I've looked at a couple of website such as Walmart and they do say sold out.

ps, are you flying from Manchester, if so we will look out for you!

My mum picked up DS lites for us when they were in Vegas for 2 DD's. Definately cheaper & the games were cheaper too!!

As for Wii - they are region locked & therefore you will not be able to buy the games here for the machine xx

If you can find one about $250.
Region locking is an issue but you could import the games or buy off ebay where they seem to have some US versions normally quite cheap.

Yep we did the same , got one at the big new Walmart on Turkey Lake Road for $129.99 about £65 and bought an adapter of the internet for £5.

did you buy the charger while you were in Florida or when you got home and where did you get it from?

My DD's Nintendo DS is from the US and we bought the charger for it from Game over here. Had no problems with it at all.

I got a red DS lite (which I don't believe you can get here at the mo) and often get comments from other peoples kids asking where it came from!

DD has the red one & it is lovely - my mum wishes she had bought herself the red one instead of the pink as it looks more grown up (mum is 60!) xx

DD2 bought a black one and I got a red one. We bought them for $130each in Walmart. We bought a charger in Walmart $20 but we also bought a travel kit for about $20 I think and this has a car charger so they can be charged in the car. Would buy one in US and the games are half the price :wavey:

I was thinking of treating myself to a DS Lite when we go in April ;) Saw the red and black one on the Walmart website and thought it looked cool.

The charger that you bought in Game, is that just a normal UK DS Lite charger?

Thanks

Just thought I would add to this thread we have just returned from a very nice holiday with the mouse. We found the ds's as rare as rocking horse poo poo. FYI the best play to get them and you have to be quick is on a wednesday between 12.00 and 14.30 at the walmart in st-cloud. up the 192. They have a delivery once aweek and they get on average of 6. We tried every where for two weeks and we finally got five from the above walmart and a red one with zelda from the electronics shop at florida mall.

We have bought several nintendo DS's and have had no problems with them. The games aren't regionalised so you can play US or UK bought games. As for the chargers, I would agree with "hayleyandhilda" that the best place to get them is from game. We bought 2 off Ebay. They turned out to be bad copies from china and blew up after a couple of months.
The Nintendo Wii or Xbox360. You cannot get for love or money in the US at the moment.
Try Toys-R-Us at the Florida Mall they often have the DS in stock and sometimes have some good package deals. They can be found on the OBT side of the mall.

2 weeks ago, all Wal Marts were sold out of DS's, but the Super Target on 192 had some black ones, and the Game Stop store at the entrance to the car park had them in every colour - black, pink, white & red - same price as everywhere else - $129 (+tax)....

Hope this helps...

IMO.. when you get to florida these consoles are as Rare As Four-Leaf Clovers. You are only saving about £20 so is it worth running around everywhere wasting valuable time trying to get hold of one? As for the games then its worth it as the are a lot cheaper than in the UK.

We bought one for each of our children for Xmas during our trip last August and would highly recommend getting them from the US - infact, I'm hoping to get myself one this year.

That would be £20 odd per console, some people buy several making a considerable saving.

Then those people who are lucky enough to find several consoles are running the risk of having to cough up a lot of duty on them if they are stopped by customs on their return. Then they really would have lost out.
