Our DS, 12, has been looking through the restaurants we are booking as part of our DDP and has decided he doesn't like any of the "posh" food on some of the adult menus (this means not burgers or pizzas!). Will he be able to order a kids meal off the menu even though he is classed as an adult? :confused2

most places will allow older children to order off the childs menu but be aware some of the portions might be small.

The only place they refused was California Grill but to be honest I think that was just our rubbish waitress as she made a number of mistakes and eventually 11 year old did end up with a pizza

Why not consider doing more buffets as this will give your child more choice!! :wavey:

Apart from the portions being small he may find them very limiting. I found the children's meals awful and our 7 yr old often ended up sharing ours, thank goodness there's plenty.

Our DS was 15 last year when we ate and apart from buffets we mostly ordered children's meals for him. It's not that he's fussy but he doesn't eat much. With a starter, main and dessert there was plenty for him. Buffets will allow your DS more choice and he can always eat from the children's section as well. Boma and Crystal Palace both have brilliant choices available.

We were on DDP last Oct/Nov with my fussy DS14 and I did worry about him as he does not like to try new things. Anyhow he managed fine even with sit down meals mainly eating chicken and steak (which he never eats at home). On one occasion he swapped meals with his sister (8 at the time) as she fancied something off the adult menu and he wanted chicken tenders. He did not always order a starter as he isn't into soup or salads but I did manage to get him to try a couple of new thing (he had duck starters a couple of times as he will eat chinese crispy duck).

In Le Cellier he amazed us by eating a duck starter, fininshing a 14oz strip steak, dessert and half of my dessert as well.

Thanks for the replies, I have put down quite a few buffets, but DH and I fancy trying out some of the restaurants. I'm sure they will just do the adult meals "plain" for him anyway, I think it is just the sauces etc putting him off!

In general, we have found the WDW restaurants very accommodating - let us mix and match off the menu, change sauces or have no sauce for example at the Yachtsman.
I know that it is a x2 TS meal option but the Yachtsman Steakhouse seems very younger person friendly :thumbs-up

Thanks for posting this, my daughter is 11 and a very fussy eater, so it's nice to know that she could have a kids meal if there was nothing else suitable.

Always feel free to ask for the sauce on the side. This is very common so don't be uncomfortable to ask. That was one of the hardest things I had to get use to when I was living in the UK was to order something and not change it. Since I've moved back to Orlando my DH (who is English and a chef) always asks me how I'm going to customize my meal just minutes after we are handed the menu. lol

Another thing I always suggest is to speak up if you see a side item mentioned that you prefer over the entree that you are looking at. Most of the time they are happy to swap it out. Restaurants are very flexible here regardless if they are at a park or just a local place.
