You can turn up on the day or buy in advance, we've done both. Please be aware that there is a lot to see and (for those that like space), even two days may not be enough to see & do everything. The best experience we've had is the NASA "Up Close" guided tour which takes you near the launch pads. It's more expensive than the standard tour but it's well worth the extra IMO.
The good thing about KSC is that with a lot of tickets you can come back for another visit within the next 7 days. We've done this on the last two trips and still managed to miss things!

We pre booked but you can buy on the day, we had a two day ticket but only needed one day, we did one of the tours which made it interesting, but apart from that I found it dull, but thats because I dont really have an interest in it, the boys loved it.

Can anybody tell me whether you can sort the tours out on the day (we've booked admission passes but didn't fancy the lunch with an astronaut thingy)?
When we went some years ago, you paid to get in then extra for any tours you wanted to do, i.e. the coach round the centre etc - is this still the same?
