Hello

Anyone got any idea what grits are?

We've seen them on all the menus for breakfast but don't know what they are, please help.

Thanks

It's like porridge only made with ground corn instead of oatmeal. Never tried it as it just looks so unappetising!

We call it wallpaper paste in this Country! ;) at least that's what it tasted like to me when I was curious and ordered it. I'm not sure what it is exactly but it's a lumpy white concoction, the consistency of paste. It's really bland too. I'd still be tempted to taste it again if it was cooked in the same pan as the sausage and bacon though

I was also curious and ordered some grits, they came drizzled all over my bacon & eggs and I spent the next ten minutes trying to scrape them all off again!

Bland, tasteless and a gloopy texture is the best way I can describe them....give me hash browns any day! :d:

Wikipedia:
Grits is a type of corn porridge, which is common in the Southern United States consisting of coarsely ground corn. This is similar to many other thick maize-based porridges from around the world such as polenta.

I'm obviously in a minority here, but I love grits AND oatmeal! Put some fruit on them mmmmmmmmmm :D

But I love hash browns too - hence the rather rotund body LOL

I first had grits 20yrs ago and the expectation was high. I have never had grits since - but the wallpaper is still on the wall

Grits are the food of the devil, why on Earth they exist is beyond me! Mind you, gravy and root beer are pretty nasty too.
How a nation that can be soooo good with food, put men on the moon etc. can create grits escapes me.

i don't mind them for breakfast but the best way is to have something with a sauce on them, shrimp and grits is sold in the south and can be very tasty
