View Full Version : Gun Ranges. Are they all so....?
Hi
I'd really like to have a go in a gun range this time and I've had a look through previous posts and there seem to be two that people recommend. I've had a look on their sites and I'm sure they're perfectly fine respectable establishments but they just apper quite, how can I put this..., rough.
Are there any that you know of that are a bit more tourist-friendly looking? Or are they perfectly ok and I just need to accept them for what they are?
Has anyone ever had any trouble at any of them?
I hope I'm not coming across as overly-picky, it's just that if I'm in a room full of stranges all with loaded guns with live ammo then I want to feel as 'safe' as possible :D

Yes they are a bit rough looking, however they are also very friendly considering the product.
I've tried two, Reigs on OBT, and another which is in our Beauties and the Beast trippy, off I4 John Joung Parkway I think.
Just buy some ammo at Outdoor World before you go, its half the price than the ammo at the range.
Good fun.

yes the areas where they are arer a bit rough, but we got chatting to a guy who said that a lot of them have been shut down in recent years as they're trying to put people off...we went to the one on oakridge road, it's really just a small gun shop with a room to the side for shooting, needless to say the lads were in there for ages and 2 days in a row too!
oh yeah and the guys that run this one are absolute nutters, hicks, one guy is a cop and a volunteer fireman, dh asked him if he's armed and he pulled out such a montage of weaponry, we laughed but when you think about it it's actually quite scary

Ds and I tried to find Riegs last year but spent half a day getting lost. If we get better directions we might try it again, the next time.

My SIL was just here and they (BF) did the gun range just off of John Young & 39th Street and had a brilliant time. I think it was more intimidating because it was only a couple of blocks from the jail at 33rd street. They paid $70 for gun rental, two boxes of ammo and 2 targets. This range was recommended to them by a sales person at the Bass Pro Shop (even gave them a business card) and they weren't disappointed.
If you want something away from the tourist area and is popular with the locals you could try Shoot Straight (www.shootstraightonline.com). They have 3 locations (the biggest, being Orange Blossom Trail in Apopka) and have been around for over 25 years. They have an archery range as well. I know a lot of gun enthusiastic people and Shoot Straight has always been the place to go.
*Their website is down at the moment but keep checking the link for more information.
Thanks everyone.
FLGirl-UKNow, I've had a look at Shoot Stright and I was all for them but then reading through their site it seemed to say that I had to be a member - "Our insurance requires you to be a member of our range to rent one of our firearms" which ruled it out :(

Thanks for catching that! I did call to confirm and you do need to be a member. Their recommendations was to go to Rieg's on Orange Blossom Trail. I'll find out the name of the one on John Young & 39th Street if my SIL still remembers.
