Hi, was just wondering if anyone has stayed in either of these hotels?
Have read mixed reviews so i'm a bit wary!
Do you have to pay a daily resort fee and is there any extra charge for a roll-away bed?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks :confused2

We stayed at the Royal Plaza in 2006. It was a lovely hotel and we would choose it again.
We didn't pay a resort fee, although I think this maybe depends who you book with. They do charge for a fridge if you request one.
We had a deluxe poolside room with 2 double beds and a sofa bed. I doubt a rollaway would have fitted if you used the sofabed.

Stayed at the Royal Plaza last October and loved it. We had 2 double beds and a sofa bed for the 5 of us. The Hotel was quiet and the pool was almost empty most days. We had a lanai room at the back these are much better than the tower rooms as they overlook the pool and have a balconey. the transport was always on time and the staff were great with adults and kids. Would recommend it.

Stayed at the Royal Plaza several times, the last time was December 07. I love this hotel. I always ask for a Tower room. The rooms are large and spacious with lovely jacuzzi baths - just what you need after a long day in the parks. The staff are nice and friendly. The only downside is the parking. They tend to hold a lot of business conferences and at busy times the car park tends to get full.

Have stayed at both hotels a few years ago now... Regal Sun used to be the Grosvenor, I thought it was ok, but DH didn't like it. Not too far a walk to DTD was a nice bonus.
The Royal Plaza though we both really liked, we would stay here again no worries.

Thanks for all your replies.
Royal Plaza seems to be the one to go with.
We will probably be travelling with TCD, so not sure if we'll have to pay resort fees which is a sticking point.
As you know, a florida holiday is quite expensive, don't really want to have to pay another bill lol!
Has anyone stayed here travelling with TCD?
thanks

We are staying at the ROYAL PLAZA in 42 days time!!!!! :stitchbou :mickeybou :stitchbou :mickeybou :stitchbou (not that i am excited or anything ;) )
We decided to book this after reading some good things from quite a few dibbers on here. Although if we had only looked at Trip advisor we would never have booked it as there is some awful reviews on there, mainly by Americans, i think its good to expect a high standard but honestly some of these people make a fuss about the silliest things.
So I will trust the people on here and hope for the best.!!!! :thumb:
had to edit as i just saw my countdown and its actually 43 days!!!!! boo-hoo

The first time we stayed at the Royal Plaza (a few yrs ago) we were on a TCD package and it was stupidly cheap - if you took out the flight and hire car cost then the hotel was costing about $40/nt, and we didn't have to pay the resort fee. We also had a high tower, side/front corner room (the front corner rooms have big bathrooms) facing DTD.
Last time we stayed (2006) we booked though Expedia and even though it was an Expedia "special rate" and was supposed to include all taxes and charges we still had to pay the reort fee. I can be pretty persuasive and forceful in needed but I couldn't get them to back down. However I complained afterwards and both the hotel AND Expedia refunded me - Result!
My main issue with Royal Plaza is noise - you do hear the noise from I4 in the rooms, and it's quite intrusive poolside. The a/c in the rooms is also noisy, but at least that drowns out the traffic noise! The rooms all have fans and it often isn't necessary to use the a/c. Some of the high tower rooms suffer from a wierd vibration that I guess might be the a/c units on the roof. DW thinks I make too much fuss about noise, but the vibration issue made her feel unwell and we had to change rooms to a lower floor.
Never had any issue parking - you can turn right as you drive in (or drive completely around the hotel, thought the main car park) and there were always lots of spaces there, just steps away from the main entrance.
They used to have a good deal on fridges - you could get one for any length of stay for $25, but I think it's much dearer now.
In summary, I think it's a good hotel *if* you get it cheap. On Expedia, it's actually cheaper to stay in POFQ which, to me, is a complete no-brainer. TCD don't list POFQ but maybe they could quote for it. They do have Carribean Beach resort for only a couple of hundred more. And that includes a fridge!
ETA, as you're asking about a roll away bed then I guess you must have loads :) of kids? The Disney rooms are possibly a bit small in that case.

Thanks Bobbins.
We stayed at POR in 2006 and it was brilliant, but as our oldest is now an adult we were looking for somewhere a bit cheaper but still close to Disney and Royal Plaza or Regal Sun seemed to fit the bill.
But if we have to pay a daily resort fee on top of the price of the holiday we'd be just as well staying at POR again and getting all the disney benefits like free parking at the disney parks etc.
Thats why i'm trying to find out as much as possible before i make up my mind.
Thanks again for the advice
Hi :wavey:
Resort fees will depend on how you book / who you book with.
For example - I booked through Virgin and I was not charged a Resort fee (though I bet it was in some way added to the cost of my holiday). My friend booked the same hotel, same time independantly and she was charged the Resort fee.
