FOr those of you who are unfortunate enough, you may already be aware that we are planning a trip for Xmas 09. Yes we are planning early but after leaving it too late and coming up short for June 08 we are desperate to avoid further heartache. Anyhow we have just figured out that DD2 will be 6 if we go December 09 meaning we can scrape into Discovery Cove. We really fancy it but are wondering whether it will be warm enough to enjoy it properly? Has anyone done it at this time of year and what was their experience like?

Similarly, will the Water Parks be worth a visit too? I know one of the Disney ones is usually closed for Refurb over this period but is the other worth a trip in December.

Thanks in advance for any replies

We went to DC in January and even though it was the worst weather of the holiday we still had a great time. We got the odd drizzle but since we were in wetsuits this wasn't a problem and the lazy river was as warm as a bath. A few days later we went to TL and had a brilliant day and all left looking lobster like but with big grins.

The weather seems to be very changeable and so may be in the 80's one day and the 60's the next but hey your in Florida so who cares.

One tip though is to book DC for early in the holiday and then if for some reason they have to cancel it they will try and book you in on another day.

Go for it.........

Did DC on Christmas Day 2006 and despite it being the worst day weather wise of our 3 week trip - it was still a fantastic experience.
Like Sara - we were in the wetsuits and not just the swim vests - the only time we got cold was towards the end of our dolphin interaction when we had been in the colder water of the dolphin pool for 30 minutes and not moving around so much as each of our group had a 1:1 with the dolphin.
The other water areas were fine temperature wise and it as pleasant enough out of the water - we just had a horrendous rain storm that made them empty all the pools for a short while.
Did not go to the other water parks as we did not seem to fit it into the schedule, but one of them was open at least (usually one in rehab at that time of year)

We normally visit in February. The night before our DC swim was one of the coldest on record. We had to scrape the ice off our car :( in the morning!! We took the decision to skip the breakfast there and arrive later so we were allocated an afternoon swim, to allow the air temp to warm up.
Once the sun warmed the air up it was a lovely day and as previously posted the main swim areas are nicely heated, but obviously the pools with the fish are cooler.
We always manage to do the water parks, but you just have to be flexible with your timetable and go when the weather suits. :)
