In the past we have never ventured down to clearwater but this time we will have 3 weeks so will probably have theopportunity..

Is it worth the drive with 2 children (aged 7 and 3 yrs)?

Tips on where to go when we get there for eating etc?

We were maybe thinking of booking an overnight stay- any ideas where?

Thanks

WE love the gulf coast and try to make a trip each year.

Never stayed over.

Usually go for a dip in the sea (bliss) then go on a boat trip to see the dolphins (seascreamer I can recommend). We then go for another dip before the day is over and we venture back to our villa.

We quite like Clearwater and it is worth a drive down. There are plenty of places to eat, we quite enjoyed Brit's on Gulfview.

We stayed one year in the Quality Inn, right on the beach, reasonably good hotel.

We used to travel with our son who was a wheelchair user. We found that most places in America are wheelchair friendly. Have not done the boat trip in Clearwater, but if your son is liftable you will probably find that the boat will be able to accommodate the chair. You could try emailing at info@dolphinencounter.org

Hope this helps :)

We always go there in October but never in March. We did quite a few years ago and it was packed out with Spring breakers so we vowed never to go there again during the spring school holidays.

We have done the Seascreamer in Clearwater a couple of times, journying down on our own by car from Kissimmee. The last time we also carried on to St Petersburg.

While I am glad we did it I'm not sure it is really worth the time and the effort, especially if you need to return to Kisssimmee / Orlando the same day and particulalrly if you have small kids. It's a two hour journey on a busy freeway and it gets a bit hairy when you get near Tampa if you don't have all your wits about you.

I have not been but my sister and neice have. They stayed at St Petes and said Clearwaters was not as good as they expected.

We prefer St. Pete`s to Clearwater. Have a look at these web sites. www.floridasbeach.com www.stpetebeach.com www.stpete-pier.com www.johnspass.com :-)

Is it worth it?

Yes!

Have a read of my Clearwater Trip Report (http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=192215) from last August.

We also love Clearwater and always try to make a trip there, although as Atlantis says, the traffic through Tampa can be a bit of a nightmare.

We have never stayed over but there is a Hilton right on the beach which I have heard good things about.

We have eaten at both Crabby Bills and Frenchys and found both to be very good (especially Crabby Bills cocktails!!)

We stayed at the Hilton in Clearwater 2 years ago for a week and fell in love with the place. We are returning this year again for a week to the Hilton. THereare some great places to eat as others have said there is Crabby Bills which is lovely or there is an Outback Steakhouse. The dolphin trips are great, we saw loads of dolphins and the sea is lovely and warm.

Another vote for yes it is worth the visit. Also, Crabby Bills is a great place to eat.

We went on an organised day trip to Clearwater and I enjoyed it. We went on the Screamer which was so much fun. We had a swim in the sea which was lovely and warm. I even enjoyed the coach trip as it meant I got to see other parts of Florida other than theme parks.

I don't know what else there is to do there but we had a lovely day.
