DH wants to go to the beach for the day. :cool2:

Don't think the kids will want to spend hours in the car so I was wondering about Daytona.

It looks the nearest on the map, just wondering what is it like and how long would it take to get there from LBV area.

Anyone have any other suggestions for a nice beach and not too far to travel?

Hi

Gulf coast beaches for me everytime - St Petes beach or Madeira beach are nice, lovely fine sand

Daytona and New Smyrna beach have compact sand, so you can take your car on to the beach. We were there last month and there were plenty of people surfing, but dont know if it is like that all year

The sea is warmer on the gulf coast and also calmer, so with kids it would have to be the gulf for me unless you want to surf

When we went we only went to two beaches and they were lovely.

they were clearwater(you can get a speed boat when you are there and you can go out and see dolphins, we saw eight dolphins all at once.)

South Beach and when we were there paris hilton was in a record shop signing her new cd.

The Gulf Coast beaches are far nicer than the Atlantic ones. St. Pete`s is one of our favourites. We spend a couple of hours at the beach and then drive down to the pier. DH and our sons fish while I have a look around the pier shops and aquarium. A two minute drive (if that!!) up the road is a mall called Bay Walk where they have a really nice Johnny Rockets. Another nice place is John`s Pass and Madeira Beach. Have a look at these web sites. www.floridasbeach.com www.stpetebeach.com www.stpete-pier.com www.johnspass.com :-)

Daytona is a lovely beach however the current in the sea is very strong and we found that the boys were unable to really enjoy the waves and paddling due to this(it knocked my DH over several times and he was only in just over waist deep).
We have also done cocoa beach which is equally as nice and the current doesnt appear to be as intense at cocoa.
Have yet to do St pete's but we have heard they are much calmer!

Depending on where you are staying Atlantic coast is closest, if you are staying near the 27 or that end of Disney then the Gulf coast is less than 90 minutes away. The beachs from Clearwater to St Pete beach are all very nice and close to nice places to eat.

We loved Cocoa beach, there was a nice atmosphere there near the pier and a great seafood restaurant at the end of the pier with lovely views in the evening.

Totally agree with Chatty chick - the waves can be rough and there is a strong current. I love daytona, but as a preference it's st petes. I cannot remember the name of the beach we go to ( it's within a small state park) i only know how to drive there!!
