My DH really wants to do some kayaking.
Has anyone ever done this?

I know it sounds silly but if doing it in a place where there are gators what happens if you roll and fall in the water?
Would really like to do a tandem so that have my DH there with me, can offer him up first!! ha ha

Any info appreciated :)

I don't kayak myself but thought this site (http://www.clubkayak.com/cfkt/) might be of some help.

A lot of our parks (where the springs are) offer both canoeing and kayaking and that is where I would take someone if I was asked.

Wekiva Springs (http://www.floridastateparks.org/wekiwasprings/default.cfm) is just off of I4 near Longwood and is very well known for its canoeing and kayaking excursions. This would be a nice day out as they have swimming at the springs as well. I believe they have options to do a trip one direction and be picked up at the other end so you don't have to turn around and come back.

DeLeon Springs (http://www.floridastateparks.org/deleonsprings/) is really nice and they have a famous restaurant you could try. It is very popular because the tables have cook tops on them and they bring you pitchers full of pancake batter so that you can flip your own pancakes.

Blue Springs (http://www.floridastateparks.org/bluespring/default.cfm) is another good option for canoeing. This is the location that hosts over 200 manatees during the winter. I was here last Thursday and there were 49 in the lagoon area. We saw loads of wildlife and several gators.

The above websites are a bit confusing to navigate so I thought I'd mention that you should use the options on the menu on the right for that particular park. The menu on the left will switch parks.

Hi. We did a half day kayaking tour last Easter-it was amazing! We used this company-
www.floridakayakcompany.com (Also known as Aardvark Tours). The co-owner, Matt, organised a personalised itinery based on our children's ages and our wishes for the day. He brings all the kayaks and meets you at a pre-determined venue. He also gives instruction(we were complete novices but managed really well). He does offer tandem kayaks, but we all managed fine. We kayaked along the Chassahowitzca (sp?) River. It was a perfect day. The scenery was beautiful. We didn't see any alligators although apparently they could have been around. Matt did reassure us that an attack just wouldn't happen! We saw fish jumping around our Kayaks, lots of really interesting birds and other wildlife and the peace and quiet was another world from the theme parks. If you emailed Matt, he would be happy to answer any questions. I am trying to find his email address and I will post it later this evening. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. :)
