It depends on which 'experience' you want. My DH did the 'ride along' last year and it was about £50 (bought the ticket from ATD). Here's the link to all the prices from there...

My DD and I went into to watch him do the drive and I took photos and video'd him as he went round. We didn't have to pay to watch but we did have to sign in for insurance reasons! He did enjoy it although it is only 2 laps and it goes VERY quick. I think he'd like to try the rookie experience some time!

You can buy a DVD of your ride and some photos if you want to but they don't do the hard sell on those so you can just say no quite easily.

I booked DH's as a 40th Birthday present and gave it to him to open on his borthday. His birthday was in Feb and we didn't go until October! With the ride-along you don't book a actual time or day you just turn up on the day and are given a 'time'....we only had to wait about 15 mins!

I'm not sure about the Rookie experience one...

It might be worth giving ATD a ring and seeing what they think.

I hope he enjoys it!

I booked in June for DH and our holiday was in October.

DH had a great time. I enjoyed 'just watching'....

DH did the Rookie Experience a couple of years back and then again last month. I stayed the whole time which was about three and a half hours (it depends on how many are booked in for the day as to how long it all takes)

I then took photos and video of his time there. The first time he did this, we bought a plaque with his photo on it and the Richard Petty logo etc.....second time we didn't buy any extras.

If you can get a date at Daytona then I would say go there.
Might cost a bit more, but the track is 2 1/2 times the size of WDW Speedway and a lot faster.
Ive done Ride Alongs at both tracks and WDW was great, but Daytona was awesome.

Hi, I have just booked my husband the Kings experience at the Disney speedway. It cost £357 and I booked it with Mercury travel who were so much cheaper than anywhere else and the service they provided was brilliant. The Rookie experiece with them is £190, and you'll find this price under sports and activities on their website: www.mercurytravel.net. Hope this helps.

My son and I did the rookie experience last year and I think it was around $400 each. I'd also recommend going for the longer Daytona track as, although the experience was OK, in all honesty it was a bit slower than I expected.

Hi

Booked it 4 days before we went out in February there for DHs 35th.

I booked through the website, well i phoned it as i coudnt do it online, cant remember why.

Staff were great and sent a very discreet email for me to print off the paperwork. I told my DH as we drove up to the Magic Kingdom Car Park booths on teh day of his birthday, he thought hewas going for the tour of the utilidors at the MK, he wasnt pleased :d: - you dont pay car parking if you are heading to Richard Petty.

He did the Rookie but paid on the day to do the drive along too. 3 laps for the drive along at $75 or something.

I paid $400 for the 8 lap rookie.

I was told we could go at either 9am or 1pm, i chose 1pm but you need to be there 30 mins before at the latest.

We were there until just after 4pm. You cant leave after your drive as everyone has to do a de briefing and gets their certificates.

DH was glad he experinced but it was not fast enough for him. The top speed he got to was 128mph but as you have to follow behind your instructor you only get to go as fast as him. Plus the WDW Speedway is mainly on a curve, it has very little straight sections, compared to Daytona. Its all about safety and thats also why you cant get as fast as you do in the Drive Along - they go much faster.

You can buy drinks and sweets there, no food. Theres shaded area next to the track for people to watch and spectators can get a ride around the track in a van if they want to free of charge

It was good experience and we too bought the plaque as a keepsake. All in all it was a good day.
